Some does possibly didn't get bred, (very small amount) but fawns coming into heat for the first time, I'm going to guess 10%. Just a guess, I may be way off. Good question.

Excluding fawns, I'll go with 96% being bred leaving 4% likely unable to.

where specifically do you hunt? most parts of texas the main breeding period is probably over but in south texas it hasn't even really started. also your buck to doe ratio could play a factor if its way out of balance.
I really don't have any idea but I'd say it would be about 15% or less.

I still see bucks chasing in Eastland, but I am seeing several bucks after a single doe, so my guess is 15% have not been bred yet in my part of the state. Of course that percentage could change depending heavly on your buck to doe ratio. Some area's have 5-7 does for every buck and some have close to a one to one. That would make a great diference on the number of does still needing breeding after the first round.

0% where I hunt in Webb County. How could every single doe be bred? Maybe it's Webb County, Mexico, they tend to breed early and often down there.

I bet 85% of the does (including sexually mature yearlings) in our area have been humped on bred. How many of those result in conception is the next question - 85%? Then, how many conceived deer go full term - 85%? Followed closely by how many fawns survive to maturity - 75%? Assume a property has a 2:1 doe to buck population - 100 does and 50 bucks. At optimal habitat, 10 acres will sustain 1 deer. Therefore this hypothetical property is 1,500 acres in size. So...out of 100 does, 85% are 'bred' = 85 pregnant does. Out of those 85 deer only 72 have a viable fetus (85% of 85). Of those 72 pregnant does, only 61 go full term to drop fawns (85% of 72). Assume the 61 full-term does throw 1.5 fawns each. You now have 92 spotted milk drinkers which are a mix of D's and B's. Add this to the existing 100 does and 50 bucks and the hypothetical property has exceeded its carrying capacity in optimal conditions by 92 mouths. I think I just convinced myself that responsible doe harvest is paramount to good wildlife management. Better start dropping some slickheads! Somebody tell me if this scenario is off base.

Only thing I know to say is I have read that in natural populations almost always 100% or very near percentage of viable does get bred.

I hunted nine days straight during Thanksgiving, at several different locations on 3500 acres in the hill country. I sat for 4 hours ever morning with a lunch break and then 4 hours every afternoon. I never saw a doe that wasn't being chased. I would have to think all of the does got bred, if not 100% then really close, it was crazy busy. It was like ants running all over the place.

Location, ratio's, herd size, etc... but probably as of now where I am in SE Panhandle, I would say half to 60% have been bred.

For those that know a bit of geometry 3.14159265359. But honestly, I think by the replies you can see that in a state as large as Texas, no two answers are the same and no answer is incorrect.

Got a call from the ranch last night that one of our biggest deer was seen bedded with a doe yesterday. I guess it's getting kicked off in NE Webb Co.
