My youngest was drawn for a Bighorn Ewe archery hunt. It was a 10 day long season, weekdays only. His hard work and preparation paid off Monday afternoon when he connected with the ewe he was chasing. While he had his choice of ewes, there was a one horned ewe that he was after. During orientation they had told him about the ewe, and asked if he would be interested in taking her as they were hoping to cull her from the herd. He took that as a challenge, and decided to target her. After 4 days of hunting he was finally able to connect. It was a challenging hunt, in a rocky and steep canyon. I can't be prouder of how hard he hunted! We covered a little over 12 miles on Monday, and didn't get out of the canyon till 9:00 pm. He drew on her 5 times before he was able to get the shot off, and when he did he double lunged her. She ran about 100 yards, stood still for a couple of minutes before dying. Here are some pictures from the hunt.
The walk in

The climb

She's not there

sheep country

She's over there

they made it around this how do we?

In them

The chase

Success!

He has great focus , very determined. When he got drawn we realized he would need a new bow. The minimum draw weight for hunting is 35 lbs and his old one wouldn't go up to that. He Bought a Diamond(he paid for his bow) and started off at 20 and slowly worked his way up to the 35lb weight. He would shoot everyday getting his practice in, by hunt time he was good to 40y. Ended up being a 14 yard shot. He wanted to be within 20 for his shot.

Thrilling. Hard core. How did you get that thing out of that canyon and back to a vehicle? I ate it once, in Colorado. Do you like the meat?
