First post on the site but I've been watching it for over a year...

My dad is flying in for the Christmas holiday and I wanted to try to get out with him and shoot a pig - archery. I've already tapped into all my resources from work and church and so far I've come up dry. Is there anyone that has property in West Texas that wants a pig or two shot? We'd take everything out with us and are ethical hunters. Even willing to share the meat if we're so lucky.
PM me, thanks.

I am not from Texas I moved here after I was stationed here we bought a house I was medically retired. For the most part I grew up in the souther Tier for New York Amish country we had a lot of land between my self my dad and grandfather but growing up and living there i never heard a land owner say no to anyone unless they were from the city mostly because the trash the property. people just didn't care as long as you did not shoot there cows or horse. I cant believe that pigs are such a problem here and the wont let you hunt them with out paying for it. the farmers in NY hated Wood chuck the wholes would lame caws and hoerses you never had to ask to shot them they were more then happy you stopped and took them out. Even after making deals with farmers and completing my end of the deal by taking them their friends and family members Catfishing all spring and summer when it came time to hunt they wanted me to pay to me i just cant wrap my head around it. if they are causing such a problem and do so much damage I would welcome anyone who could take them out for me less work for me i have been trying to fined places around me as well i just dont the have the extra money to pay the money they want to take some pigs

I would try befriending some people and going above and beyond on what you could for them. This will go a lot further than just asking to hunt. Most people that get asked have been ask over and over. I might even leave out the vet part if you are one. That one gets played pretty hard. Being cortious can go along way. Be true to your intentions and word. A firm handshake and look in the eyes never hurts either. There are some pretty inexpensive hog hunts out there though. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Where are you located? I have seen ads on craigslist offering hog hunts for so much/day around Abilene and Snyder. Might check there, but be careful as always using craigslist. Some thieves on there also.

offer to pay for hog hunt and you'll find something

you must consider the cost of owning land, feeders, feed etc ...

you wouldn't let someone sleep in your bedroom if they offer
to remove a couple spiders or cockroaches from your garage, would you ?

I figured that was the case. I'm getting a hunt set up at the K-bar ranch in Odessa. Pay to play...true statement.

Not looking good then for what I was about to ask..... my husband and his adult friend, plus the friend's teenage grandson, are going to be in TX on Dec. 29 and 30 and we have been trying to find a reasonably priced hog hunt for them - not looking for fancy accommodations, just a place to hunt. So far most of what I've found is more about the amenities than the hunt - am I wrong???? Are there still people wanting to get rid of the hogs?
