For you folks that carry daily, I am wondering how you cover during the hot summers? I work in what you could call "construction", night work and generally alone. I can get my CHL through the LEO provisions, but don't see anyway to "conceal", when I wear blue jeans and cheap pocket tee shirts for work. (something I can get paint on and not worry about it in the heat).

Haven't kept up on the open carry proposal, would love that! since that is what I am familier with during my LE time.

About 1/2 or 3/4" of my Bersa Thunder sticks out of my back pocket. I just make sure I have a shirt pulled down over it.

I couldn't ever keep my gun really concealed either when carrying the traditional way 4-5 o'clock with the way I dressed which is jeans and tee shirts all the time when I'm not at work. The gun printed too much and just stuck out like a sore thumb on my side. I started carrying small of the back and it is easy to conceal, but not comfortable when sitting down. So looked for another way to carry and I came across the appendix in the waist band carry method. The gun absolutely disappears with this method even large frame guns are almost undetectable from just looking. It took a little getting used to when sitting down but you just have to remember the gun will ride up high once you get this figured out, it is one of the most comfortable ways I've ever carried and I don't have to worry about someone seeing my gun print.

I know a lot of guys will say oh I don't want to point a gun at my private parts, but its really no worse than holstering a gun IWB pointing it at your leg where one of the biggest arteries in your body is. I've noticed one thing that carrying appendix carry will make you more aware when re-holstering. I carry a G27 and when re-holstering the gun you just take better care there is nothing obstructing the trigger when the gun goes in the holster, which you should do anyway, but most people don't think about it until their gun is pointed at their junk LOL I know I didn't.

A slim gun is key and something like a Bullard bodyguard outside.

Thanks for all the thoughts and suggestions so far. Intended carry weapon will likely be a Sig 227r carry. Not small, but not as big as my p220

Even with the open carry law, I'd want at least partial concealment, but would worry less if it is seen.

That's exactly how I intend to utilize the new open carry laws. Outside waistband with an untucked shirt

Maybe go to cheap SS button up work shirts. Keep the tails tucked out. 2cents

That may be a great option, not a comfortable, but probably a good compromise.

Dennis, I know you work mostly nights, and the nights are cold right now, so I would throw it in the front hand pocket of your jacket for now

OH Yeah!! Some nights I have enough on, I wouldn't be able to find it! It would be easeir to just hand over my wallet LOL I do have a shoulder holster somewhere if I can find it, heck that would work great under my heavy jacket. Great thoughts there BP

Dennis, is an ankle holster completely out of the equation for you? Less than ideal but far better then one's firearm locked up inside a vehicle.

Janie, yeah, it would be a PITA for the work I am doing. Sig sits right beside my wallet in the truck and it wouldn't be the wallet I pulled if it was demanded. I am around my truck all the time, so a break in would be negligible.

My son has his CHL and carries when helping me, but he wears them loose gym type clothes a lot of the young people wear now. Think he carries a small frame XD in .40, but I always see him adjusting it.

Gotchya. Only other thing that comes to mind, would be a tactical holster t-shirt, or a belly band. Chad posted up on another thread, that he made his own. May be worth checking into.

Stay safe.

There is a pair of pants, maybe 5.11's, that is designed for concealed carry. It has a built in holster in each front pocket that has a thumb break. Also has 2 built in mag holders. They are pricey, around $80, but that's the price of a good holster. The best thing about them is they don't look like GI Joe pants.

It takes a lot of thought to conceal carry, depending on temp and what you're wearing that day. I appendix carry a lot, but also carry on my hip a lot. Just depends on what I'm wearing and where I'm going. My appendix carry comes out when I'm driving and gets tucked under my left thigh and goes back in as I'm stepping out of the truck.
