We had a lease member get a ticket over the weekend. The violation on the ticket says "White tailed deer processed beyond the quarters". He basically deboned it at the lease and didnt wait till he got home at his final destination. Does anyone know how much this ticket will cost? I can't seem to find it online.

It's a TPWD Class C Misdemeanor. Fine can be $25-$500. The amount will be up to the JP in that county.

The TPWD regs say it is a class-C misdemeanor, with fines from $25-500. If was just deboned, without slicing into steaks or otherwise, the judge might set the fine at the lower end. The regs say quarters and backstraps only unless you are consuming that portion immediately in camp.

Learn something new everyday. Guess I had never given this scenario much thought. Does make it hard to legally cut steaks out and then take what would normally be deboned and destined for HB to a processor to make sausage out of. I do get the spirit of the law though and to not have multiple deer mixed in a cooler and passed off as 1.

The rest of the quarters, straps, tenders and trimmings must remain together until final destination is reached. And the tag and proof of sex must remain with the uneaten portions until final destination. You cannot cut steaks and leave them in the fridge at camp over night.

The guy on the lease that got the ticket said he'd been doing it that way for 15+ years and never had an issue. Guess he learned something new too.

This is an excellent example of when A GW should give a warning and a quick lesson on the right way to do things, according to the law.

Was the ticket given at the lease or somewhere else? How often is the guy checked? I have never seen a GW at the lease in 12 years or even in the county driving around.

Seen some let it pass and some make a issue out of it, all is up to the Warden in the field and his discretion. Same with if you have the Rib cage or not...

The ticket was given at the lease. We usually see him once a season and he checks all our licenses. The guy on the lease shot the doe in the morning and processed it out. They actually ate some of the backstrack that afternoon. The game warden ran across us driving back on the county road to the cabin and followed us in to check everything.

Do you have a Log Book at Camp..Just Curious Did he have all 4 quarters with or without cage and was any of the meat in baggies and if so labeled, was the head accompanying the meat or within close proximity ...Just curious as to a argument I have with another guy

Amazing... sometimes you have to wonder what might have happened to cause such action. Past scenarios.

The way I read it tenders, trimmings, neck and rib cage are not required to be kept, although I do. But TPWDs description of quarters could use a little touch up.

Just curios about the location (County) of the lease where this occurred. Although technically correct, the GW could have given the hunter a warning (cut him some slack). Probably comes from a family of NFL referees.

This link states the following... Cold Storage or Processing Facilities A cold storage or processing facility may be established anywhere, including on property where hunting is conducted. It must be a stationary facility designed and constructed for the purpose of processing and/or storing game animals and game birds. A vehicle, trailer, or other type of mobile storage or processing arrangement IS NOT a stationary facility.
So what constitutes a cold storage facility on privately owned property? Is a skinning rack, some stainless counters/table/sink and fridge freezer room and processing equipment enough?
It's hell eatin em live

Yeah, don't listen to me. I'm just an idiot.
Lol. Duckbill that was funny! The dude up top has already taken lots of bone before this deer, both mule and whitetail.

From what i observed, he cut out all the meat and tossed it into his cooler that morning. He planned to grind it up when he got back home. The carcus was taken to the nearby CRP field. The game warden wanted to see the carcus so he took him where he disposed of it. They brought it back to camp with them. The ribs and quarters were still attached to the carcus. He didnt take any of the meat off the front shoulders since it was where he shot the doe. The game warden actually had him remove all 4 quarters to keep with the meat until he got home. The guy asked eatiabout ng the front shoulders since it been in the field all day and the GW said it's best if he feeds it to his dog.
This is Nolan County.
I will say the game warden is always very nice and he took the time to answer my questions. He also helped the guy who got the ticket process it like it should be and even offered him his tools to use.
