Now that you say the front quarters were still attached to the carcass, that to me is a different story altogether and I can see him getting a ticket.
Cabin rental in Pagosa Springs, Co. Sleeps 10, If interested please PM me.

I believe he would have gotten off with a warning if the front quarters were not with the carcass. live and learn....let us know what the fine ends up being, in case we need to set aside a fund for this in the future!

So you are thinking if he deboned it and kept the quarters in a garbage bag he would have been okay?

It says in the handbook that you don't have to keep the meat that was torn up from being shot. So if his bullet hit both shoulders I would assume those would both be considered in usable

I think if it had been quartered first and he was deboning the quarters he may have been given a warning. Honestly it sounds like the warden did the right thing to me.

That's why does are shot in the head. No wasted meat, no lousy tickets.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

The ticket was given at the lease. We usually see him once a season and he checks all our licenses. The guy on the lease shot the doe in the morning and processed it out. They actually ate some of the backstrack that afternoon. The game warden ran across us driving back on the county road to the cabin and followed us in to check everything. Do you have a Log Book at Camp..Just Curious Did he have all 4 quarters with or without cage and was any of the meat in baggies and if so labeled, was the head accompanying the meat or within close proximity ...Just curious as to a argument I have with another guy You are not required to keep the ribcage. I'm not sure why this would matter. Understood, I KNOW that but had a guy ticketed in Junction for not having Ribcage..I was asking in the OP case the situation So did the guy fight the ticket? What was the outcome?

Dang, we went from de-boning a deer in camp to a WRD. What tha?
it's best to read and understand all TPWD rules that pertain to your outdoor pursuits. That way you won't end up on the wrong end of a warden.

So if the bones won't fit into an ice chest and you cut the meat off the bone so the meat will fit in the ice chest, it's a violation? Or is it ok as long as the bones are still around/near the boned out meat? My stupidity has confused myself.

So do I have a potential problem at our cabin? It is used year round as a weekend home. When I shoot a deer, the cabin is usually the final destination. Backstraps get cut into steaks, most of the rest is cut up into stew size chunks and frozen.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

Understood, I KNOW that but had a guy ticketed in Junction for not having Ribcage..I was asking in the OP case the situation
It was only a few years ago that not keeping the ribs was considered waste of game meat and could be ticketed. You could bone out the ribs then but if those little strips were not with the meat then it was illegal, for the last few years the ribcage restriction was removed. So if the bones won't fit into an ice chest and you cut the meat off the bone so the meat will fit in the ice chest, it's a violation? Or is it ok as long as the bones are still around/near the boned out meat? My stupidity has confused myself. Get a bigger cooler, that technically would be a violation and can be ticketed It says in the handbook that you don't have to keep the meat that was torn up from being shot. So if his bullet hit both shoulders I would assume those would both be considered in usable Have never seen a deer shot in the shoulders where all of each shoulder was rendered unfit for consumption. You can remove the bloodshot meat and still have meat for grinding from each shoulder. Also the shoulders are not attached by bone so they are easy to remove with just a knife. I prefer to bone out the hams while it is hanging but do not debone the hams and shoulders until they are at the house, since that is the law.

I spoke to the guy this morning. His ticket was $175. He also got a warning for wasting game meat(front shoulders) which would had cost $150 if it was a ticket. He wasn't too happy but now that clarified a few things for us.

Backstraps get cut into steaks, most of the rest is cut up into stew size chunks and frozen. if it's your property, and you can live there it's your final destination deer shot on my land gets processed there, but I keep all evidence/tag/proof of sex, so I can back it up in court

Wow! I had no idea that you couldn't debone the quarters until you get home. Glad I read this!

Takes a pretty big ice chest to hold an entire deer. How many quart would you say that is? Since you do it all the time.

It's a TPWD Class C Misdemeanor. Fine can be $25-$500. The amount will be up to the JP in that county. Wow thanks for the info I never knew that, learn something new every day on here
