We had a lease member get a ticket over the weekend. The violation on the ticket says "White tailed deer processed beyond the quarters". He basically deboned it at the lease and didnt wait till he got home at his final destination. Does anyone know how much this ticket will cost? I can't seem to find it online.

It's a TPWD Class C Misdemeanor. Fine can be $25-$500. The amount will be up to the JP in that county.

The TPWD regs say it is a class-C misdemeanor, with fines from $25-500. If was just deboned, without slicing into steaks or otherwise, the judge might set the fine at the lower end. The regs say quarters and backstraps only unless you are consuming that portion immediately in camp.

Does make it hard to legally cut steaks out and then take what would normally be deboned and destined for HB to a processor to make sausage out of. I do get the spirit of the law though and to not have multiple deer mixed in a cooler and passed off as 1.

I had no idea the law existed, much less why there would be need for it.

Sure seems to be splitting hairs to me.

You can legally cut out steaks if they are to be cooked immediately. The rest of the quarters, straps, tenders and trimmings must remain together until final destination is reached. And the tag and proof of sex must remain with the uneaten portions until final destination. You cannot cut steaks and leave them in the fridge at camp over night.

If at lease you must have a permanent facility just for that and a log book.

The guy on the lease that got the ticket said he'd been doing it that way for 15+ years and never had an issue. Guess he learned something new too.

This is an excellent example of when A GW should give a warning and a quick lesson on the right way to do things, according to the law.

Was the ticket given at the lease or somewhere else? How often is the guy checked? I have never seen a GW at the lease in 12 years or even in the county driving around.

Seen some let it pass and some make a issue out of it, all is up to the Warden in the field and his discretion. Same with if you have the Rib cage or not...

The ticket was given at the lease. We usually see him once a season and he checks all our licenses. The guy on the lease shot the doe in the morning and processed it out. They actually ate some of the backstrack that afternoon. The game warden ran across us driving back on the county road to the cabin and followed us in to check everything.

Do you have a Log Book at Camp..Just Curious
Did he have all 4 quarters with or without cage and was any of the meat in baggies and if so labeled, was the head accompanying the meat or within close proximity ...Just curious as to a argument I have with another guy cheers
