This weekend my son shot a doe. She dropped instantly on impact in an open field. Waited about 30 min. for the other two doe to leave and my other son to arrive. We are all three standing in an open field next to the doe giving high-fives when my oldest son yells "BUCK"! I turn around and there is a 8 point buck that jumps a fence about 40 yards away. We all froze in amazement. I took aim not to shoot but for protection at this point, not the size deer we are after. For the next 20 minutes this buck continued to take a few steps forward and stop until it got about 12 yards from us. At this point I am not sure what to do. If I yell will he freak out and charge us? Do I shoot it in self defense? Finally he slowly turns and starts heading away. We watch him slowly walks away. Probably the coolest experience I have ever had while hunting with my two sons. The look on my two boys eyes was priceless!

I had a similar experience right before Thanksgiving. I had corned the road around the blind I was hunting and parked the Jeep in a very low spot in the road. When I got down out of the stand I loaded all my stuff in the Jeep not trying to be quiet at all. Shutting doors and stuff. When I walked around to get in and leave something caught my eye about 50 yds behind me in the road. Three does eating corn out of the road. They would look up at me and just go back to eating, so I decided to try to see how close I could get. Walking very slowly toward them, they never spooked. They knew I was there and let me walk right to them. Two mature does and a fawn. When they finally walked away (never spooked) I was 10 feet from them. I tried to video it, but it was too dark. I did take several pics and the flash went off and everything. Crazy. One of coolest experiences I've ever had as well.

That would be a pretty awesome experience.

Two seasons ago I shot a buck. Didn't give him enough time. I found blood and followed a few feet to the tree line. Step into the woods and it disappears. I start having this bad feeling (best deer I'd shot to that point) I look up and he's in some bushes about 5 yards away looking at me. Scared the crap out of me.

Still don't how that deer was still walking. He was hit twice with a .308. Once through the chest and one a little far back.

Probably a good thing there where 3 of you, one of you alone, alone may have had a fight on their hands. SA fight with a buck, is serious bidness!
