Anyone have any information on deer activity in Webb County? Any rut activity? I'll be down in Webb County right before Christmas with my teenage boys and hoping they can shoot something. TIA.

Was in Dimmit over the weekend. Saw one young buck chase a very young yearling doe for about 10 yards. Hardly any sign at all. Deer were hitting corn good though. We saw a few over 150". Buddy killed a giant bodied deer that went 180 lbs field dressed. Should begin very soon though. Two weeks is when it normally is.

Webb's a huge county. We're in the NE portion and the country may be in its best shape ever. That means reduced visible deer movement. As for the rut, young bucks acting stupid. A few middle-aged bucks looking around, most mature deer hunkered down conserving energy. I'd say we're early pre-rut. You and your boys should hit the peak, or darned near it. Good luck!

p.s. - I've noticed the deer there will have a very intense rut when the country's this good. In those years, the second go round is more subdued. We're gonna have to get up high and sit for long periods during the rut this season, imo.

Thanks for the information. Our place is 30 miles or so northwest of Laredo, off 83, west of I-35. I'll prepare my boys to spend some long days in the blind.

Heading to our place outside Laredo tomorrow morning. I've been watching the weather forecast and while it will be cooler, I wish it would get colder. In any event, really looking forward to it, couldn't hardly sleep last night I'm so fired up about this trip.

Late yesterday, my two boys and I were invited to hunt at a friend's place in Val Verde County, outside of Del Rio. It's an MDLP property and apparently, they have plenty of tags that need to be used up. He also said they have some exotics out there. Such a great opportunity that I couldn't refuse, even though I will have to cut my hunting time in Laredo short by a day. So, I'll stop and his place for a couple sets on the way back from Laredo.....I'm glad gas prices are low, going to be racking up some miles on this trip. I really do hope my boys can shoot something on this trip. I'm not going to tell them about the Val Verde County place until we are heading out from Laredo, an early XMAS surprise for them.
