Been pretty busy this week and haven't had much time to slow down and post.

Thanksgiving weekend is a weekend that I have never missed in the 20 years at our place in Texas, it has become a family tradition. It is one weekend that there is typically a large group, lots of kids and lots of fun had there. This year, the weather put a major damper on the other members of the lease that are typically around, but we didn't let that stop us. My sister and her family made it, my two kids and I were there, my father, and one other member made it with his two kids.

The weather wasn't the best...cold, rainy and just plain messy out there. It kept the kids indoors for most the weekend, but that didn't stop them from heading out once the rain quit.

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of sitting in the rifle blind and watching my father kill a great buck with his bow. It was a great experience and a memory I will carry. Truly was much more exciting than I ever expected. Well, last weekend I was able to return the favor.

On Saturday, the weather finally broke and my father took both my kids up into the rifle blind where it was dry and warm while I wandered down to my bow blind. We got set up and it didn't take long for the action to start. A new buck that we haven't seen on camera came in about 15min after I got set up. He wouldn't stand still very long to give me a good look, but I could tell he was a nice 8 pointer. He came in to about 20 yards and I let him walk...when he came back from the other direction, I couldn't pass him up.

He isn't my best buck, but a damn fine bow kill and a deer I am proud of. Best part of the entire hunt and experience was listening to my kids tell the story over and over and listening to my father tell the story about what the kids were doing and how they were acting. Listening to the story about my hunt and my kill from the perspective of those three makes this hunt one of my favorites and this buck truly a trophy beyond measure.

To top it off, we have a new member on the lease that has never hunted. He has two boys and he wanted them to get the experience that he never had. The oldest was able to connect with a great first buck!! (We had to show them how to clean it). It was all high fives and congrats back at camp and that kid was walking on cloud9.

All the kids went out to track my buck and had a blast competing to see who could find the blood and who could find the deer. My niece grew up hunting with me before I had kids and I always make a point to hunt with her each year, even though her step father is a great father, I still need my time grin To explain a couple of the pictures, she wanted to clean my deer.

Hope you enjoy the pictures cheers

Hard to tell in the picture, but that is my 11 year old niece cleaning my buck grin

All the kids had a great time!!!

Great way to spend Thanksgiving TREX, very nice buck too. Best part is having the kids involved, they will alwasy know there is more to life than the daily grind we get into when we get older.

Great story, great kiddos, and nice buck! I like the mass on that dude, congrats.

I bet it is exciting to watch the hunt as your Dad did. My heart always races way more when someone beside me is taking the shot and I'm hoping they connect!

Sure looks like quality time outdoors and great memories.

I was up in the rifle blind and got to watch the deer come in from about 300 yards away. I knew what buck he was hunting so it became a waiting game for the buck to set up. He had seen it 6-7 other hunts but hadn't been able to get a shot at it. It was a great experience!!

Thanks!
