I posted in Off Topic that I'm looking for a knife for my 14 year old cousin. I'm kicking around Case, Kershaw, Gerber, etc. and happened to think of Moore Maker. Figure its something different most of his buddies in TN won't have.

I've never owned their knives. Are they good to go? Thought it would be cool for him. Looking at their little yellow handle lock back.

Good knives, just know that shiny blade will discolor with time and usage, or the ones I have done that. They are not stainless so care must ne taken like with all carbon steel blades.

The old ones are gold!!!! New ones not so much. Quality has really gone down hill.

Two things that where gold at the feed lot growing up. Beck boots(only boots that wouldn't rot out in a year) and Moore Maker, nothing like cutting 200 bull yearlings a day.

Unfortantley Iv'e been highly disaapointed in my last three Moore makers. One knife that's still top quality is Hen and Rooster.

I just read on a knife forum that I found by google search that said basically what you did BOBO. Quality has taken a slide. Thats unfortunate. It was a good thought. Guess I should keep looking.

There is still the nostalgia factor to Moore maker though. I've had guys try to buy my dehorners and fencing pliers a couple time, and I assure you those guys have never touched a horn much less fixed a fence.

Moore Maker quality has gone in the toilet as stated above, the old blades where made by Queen and some others and assembled in Texas. I'm pretty sure 4-5 years ago they outsourced the blades to be made by the same company that makes the Schrade blades.

There high end stuff is made by canal street and the lower end is bear and sons. This is primarily the rule of thumb for folders. I'm not sure about the fixed blade knives.
I have a single blade canal street with gold abalone scales and it's quite the looker.
I am a pre 2010ish more maker fan and own a drawer full. Sues store in Cherokee TX had a little back stock so we bought the oldest ones she had.

Look into Great Eastern Cutlery... You might like what you see.

Wish my plumber would hurry up and get my bill to me. If I have enough cash left over I'm gonna order another...

The steel is too soft. You can get them to shave quickly, and of course, they dull quickly. They will dull sitting in a drawer. Micro corrosion I suspect.

They make a great fence plier but not so much on the knives! I second the Great Eastern Knives. I carry one daily and its the best production knife I have found. It is no where near the quality of my custom knives but it makes a good user that Im not going to break the bank if I lose or break it.

This is the one I carry.

What is the "free bail w/purchase"? A bail for the knife? I got a couple of old Moore's. But like the others have said, I stay away from the new ones. Heck, even half the Case knives made nowadays aren't near the quality they used to be.

Mmmm Hmmm

Get a tree brand or eye brand.
