I'm going hunting in Henderson County near Athens, Texas this weekend for the first time in a while. Taking my son and hoping he can shoot a buck or spike. Anybody hunting near there? What are the deer doing? TIA.

its really been day to day as far as i can tell. I know the does and young bucks are moving right before dark, so maybe he can get him one of the younger bucks. As far as the branched antlered bucks, mainly nocturnal for me. But a few days ago, it was doable.... never know!

I've seen deer every time out for the past couple of weeks. Shot an 8 point with 16 inch spread about 3 weeks ago. Saw a great 9 point (better than the 8 point I shot) on Thanksgiving evening. The bigger deer I have seen late afternoon.

Thanks for all the information guys, I appreciate it! I hope the deer are moving in the area I am hunting which is southwest of Athens. Since doe season is over, hopefully my teenage son can shoot a really nice buck or really young buck. I have seen several spikes on my game camera but the deer stopped coming to our feeder on a consistent basis since the last two weeks in October. Before then, they were coming every morning and every evening.

We were out there most of the day Saturday and until 10 am this morning. Unfortunately, we didn't see a single deer. I checked the card on my game camera by our feeder when I got home and only 4 deer have hit the feeder in the last 3 weeks. Ugh. We did see a small hog right around dusk but he ran back into the brush before we could react. We have a very narrow shooting lane on this property and next year I'm going to put up another blind so that we can look over a field with a tree line behind it. It should give us a bigger area to scan and hopefully, spot deer.
