Yesterday was a sad day in the Lipan community we lost one of our best while he was hunting, he was very well known and a friend to everyone around here including myself, he was 72 years old and a retired Navy Seal and even at his age he was someone no one wanted to mess with he wasn't frail by any means and very few of us ever thought he was in his 70's because of how active and outgoing he was. I got the text about 1 pm yesterday that he had had a heart attack while loading up a 9pt buck just outside of Lipan. It was a shock to say the least. He went hunting that morning and never came home about 11am one of his family members went to check on him since we was gone so long and found him laying behind his truck next to the buck he was trying to load obviously he had been gone for quite a while, it is a sad loss for his family and the community as a whole.

I had read somewhere that more hunters die in the field by heart attack while trying to move downed game than in hunting accidents I believed it but never gave it much thought until yesterday. The vast majority of us know how to not shoot each other and are careful with tree stands and such but this is one more thing to consider. I know from now on if I'm not comfortable trying to load one up there is no shame in calling for help.

Be safe out there guys and good luck the rest of the season.

Prayers for the family.
Walking to the stand with back pack, gun, and all the other stuff we need does make a chore for us older guys (I'm 65 work construction, walk about 5 miles a day) it gets me breathing hard walking in for 100 yds.
We all need to know our limitations.

Frank was our neighbor when we lived in Lipan, and he's still our favorite. Always looked after our place when we were gone. My wife called me this afternoon, crying, to tell me about it. I wish I could have loaded that deer for him.

Prayers sent for the family and friends. Sounds like a man that left an impression and left this world doing what he loved.

Sad deal, and sending prayers. When I pass some day I hope its doing something I enjoy and not laying in a nursing home bed.

R.I.P.

Thoughts and prayers to all of his family and friends. I know this sounds kind of silly, but if my dad goes that way (he's 83)...it'd be sad, but I know he breathed his last breath doing what he loves. And it would be a special deer mount.
