Well it seems as if the neighbors got them all. So goes it with if you shoot something because the neighbor does you are that neighbor. But the neighbor got the meat and now I can't make sausage.

Vicious circle.

Yep. There was a time in my life that I would have chided you for that. In my early life and now I would help you celebrate. I like that much better.

There are negatives and positives and they are different based on personal opinions/experiences.

I in fact went through a couple of evolutions personally. Grew up with "brown it's down", but after watching the YO change the world forever by putting up a high fence, and then being able to guarantee an 8 point buck on over 90,000 acres HF it changed my perspective.

Then I became a management proponent. Went through the "it must be mature to be killed" phase (big time).

After learning that you really can't cull your way to big deer in a native pasture, I slacked off on that end.

Now I'm back to enjoying hunting and all success (the Nuge influenced me there). I let my grandson kill a yearling 6 point (not in my improved pasture) and couldn't have been happier about it. There was a time I would have made him shoot a spike or doe.

I still make some of my income off big bucks and I let those deer all reach maturity, but I'm evolving back to just enjoying hunting instead of making "proper management" the top priority.

Have watched a lot of leases here shoot their way into deer shortages without the quality improvement they were looking for.

But you could always move back to the good ol' ETX...even know a place for sale so that you and NP can be neighbors...lol

Ha! Yeah, I'm not sure the world is ready for that ..
