I want something I can use from 100yds-1,000yds & anywhere in between. I want to be able to range/judge distance & windage with minimal outside assistance. Please tell me a scope that fits the bill of: FFP exposed turrets MIL/MIL @ least 16 mag. @ least 44 obj. <$900 Thanks!

Possibly an old Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44mm/50mm. They don't make the Conquest any more. I have the 50mm and it has all what you need, except 16x mag. I think they made it in Mildot(?) but mine is a #4.
Good luck. Oh and I bought mine brand new in 2011/12 for $700ish, when market price was about $800ish.

The Vortex PST has been my 1st choice, & almost only choice w/these requirements, but told on another forum all Vortex's are junk except the Razor, which I can't afford. I've been happy w/all the Vortex's I've owned but there are a couple guys that are adamant that they are junk so I'm searching other options.

If you compare them sure I would agree with that. Just like a bmw 3 series is junk compared to the track gtr. That doesn't mean a bmw 3 series can't do a lot When I went elk hunting I took my 4-16 pst and razor spotter. The razor looked brighter which was more noticeable at dusk and dawn, but the pst still held its on. If money was no object than sure razors all the way around, but a pst is a good scope. If I shot at etts, I would let you look at mine

while it is out of your price range the bushnell eliminator III is an awesome scope, tells you windage offset (based on your round entered) and you have to calculate the difference for actual, automatically sets offset for distance (again on your particular round) and gives windage dots you use to offset windage. had the 4-16 but was just too much for out here, 1,500.00 scope with excellent glass and extremely accurate. has over 4,000 possible rounds you can enter so doubtful you would have much problem finding what you use. http://www.burrisoptics.com/scopes/eliminator-iii-laserscope-series

Email from Vortex today:
From: me Sent: Wednesday, December 02, 2015 3:07 PM To: VX Information Subject: Vortex Glass Questions
Has the glass in the PST line, specifically the 4-16x50, been changed in the last couple years?
Is the glass the same in a Viper HS 4-16x44 and a PST 4-16x50 and/or 6-24x50?
Is the glass the same in the PST 4-16x50 & 6-24x50?
Is the glass the same in the FFP & SFP PST scopes (w/50mm obj.)?
Thanks!
Ken Calhoun VX <kcalhoun@vortexoptics.com> To me Today at 11:40 AM
The Viper HS, HS-LR, HS-T, and Viper PST all share the same glass and that hasn’t changed since their release.
All the best,
**Interesting & not very confidence building in the PST line! Makes me feel my Viper HS was/is a lot better deal than the PST FFP is.

Bushnell has been getting good reviews. I just got a deal on the 34mm tube 4.5-30 and it looks good. Bright and clear
The glass is similar but as I understand the turrets and build are different between the vortex lines.

Vortex Viper PST is not junk. I've been using a 6-24X Mil/Mil FFP for three years without a breakdown. It tracks repeatedly and returns to zero. Once I've dialed it as far up as it would go (22.0 Mils) and shot 1 mile with the scope on the 7 Rem Mag. Best scope out there? No. Junk? Absolutely no.
If you want a better scope, you are going to have to increase your budget.
Yes, Bushnell Elite is often a better scope than the Viper PST. I have the ERS 3.5-21, but it is way over your stated budget. Dealing with Vortex and Bushnell with warranty work, Vortex does a better job taking care of problems, and it is obvious. FYI, rumor has it Vortex is extending their 35% discount that is LE and military to Firefighters now as well.
I've got no skin in the game on either company, just telling you what I know about each.

I'm going to go to SWFA (<10 minutes away) tomorrow & compare the Bushy DMR next to the Burris XTR 2 & the PST as well. I know it won't be low light foggy sky @ dawn/dusk but I'll still get to play!

I've got no skin in the game on either company, just telling you what I know about each. Could not disagree with you more. The vortex is one of the biggest pieces of crap I have have ever owned. Below average glass, not repeatable and returns to zero about never. But oh yes, you like everyone else know about that great warranty. Usually because people have used it multiple times. Just telling you what I know and have experienced. Now that Bushnell... I have been wanting to try one of those.

Since your going to be there compare it to their super sniper 5-20x50 HD too. It doesn't have the bells and whistles that some of the others do but I bet you will find the glass is a whole site better and its more repeatable that the PST. Good luck with whatever you chose.

I've had a Viper 4-16 FFP PST for a couple of years now. It sits on my favorite rifle, that Tikka 260. I've got a couple of Leupold VX3's in 4.5-14 and had considered replacing the Viper with one of them, but I just like the Viper so much that I can't make myself swap them out. The Leupold glass, in my opinion, is a bit better, but that doesn't make the Viper glass bad. I really like that scope, though I don't crank the turrets as much as the long distance guys do.
In my view, if you want to keep the price at or below $1k for a scope that meets the OP's criteria, the Vortex Viper PST is the obvious choice. It is not a crappy scope. Far from it. And this comes from a guy that has always been a true blue Leupold fan.

Based on my experience with two Vipers there are scopes with better glass in the same price range. As I state often though - some people see better out of certain brands of scopes than others. I see better out of a Burris Fullfied II than I do out of any scope in the Prostaff lineup, and I see better out of my Bushnell Elite 4200 than any Viper. Your experience may be the exact opposite and we both would be correct.
Vortex does have outstanding customer service and that is nothing to sneeze at. I like their binoculars and I also have a Razor Red Dot that is very nice. For my eyes though I've found their scopes lacking in low light. YMMV.
With my tired old eyes I would have to up the budget to get a scope I could use at 1,000 yards. I also think a scope that is good at 1,000 yards would be serviceable at 100 but not so great at 50 yards, and I've taken a bunch of animals at 50 yards. If you are punching paper then no big deal, if hunting you may have too much magnification to shoot at close range.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.
