Sad thing is, if the dog disappeared, the owner could have another dog before this weekend and if the owner is not going to make any more of an effort on the second dog than he did the first, you are back in the same predicament.

I was not aware of the above where a dog would have to be attacking livestock or coming at a human before being put down. I was always under the impression if it is on our property, it should not have been and that was to be handled however the property owner felt neccesary rifle

The negligent dog owner will have another dog before you can quit sweating from burying the original chasing dog. It is a people problem, not a dog problem. Just saying

Have Shot a few over the years all were chasing deer at the time. Never even thought about not shooting the dog some decisions are just automatic. A deer chasing Dog is a Dead dog.
