I'm going pheasant hunting, but I'll be hunting several places between Floydada and Hale Center. The landowners are reporting decent, but not great, numbers of pheasants...but they say the quail are thick. I'm really looking forward to this hunt for the first time in several years.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

Finally going to make it to Hart this year. We will be rolling into Plainview Friday evening. See y'all at breakfast. A weather report for Hart would be appreciated.

Catch Dog, you hunting the Harts Lions Club Hunt? I'm bringing my cold weather wear. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Sent you a PM Catch Dog.

I'd count on the wind blowing at some point. I seldom wear a real coat while bird hunting, but gloves, head cover, and thin layers to break the wind chill would be in order.

How many of yall are taking your dogs? Been there and done that. We used to take our dogs every year to Hereford or mule shoe. Our old dogs did great. They'd cast across the whole line, point birds and make me proud. The young dogs would go nuts and have a great time wondering what to do with all the hunters. I'll knock the pointers. That's a shorthair, Brittany kind of hunt.

Plan on taking the springer, shorthair and the pointer. Plan is finding the place they tell us to go, put the shorthair down for a short but to stretch his legs, then the pointer depending on wind and hunting the springer as much as I can. Basically, have no idea what is going to happen but we are going to give it our best shot.....

what shall we expect Saturday morning? Hunters in the same area, open fields with thick fences rows? You have me wondering if I should leave one dog at home.

We had a large group, so we had the early morning field to ourselves. When you first go out, you are assigned a field. After you hunt it, you can go to any of the fields on the map. We covered a few different fields before we broke for lunch. The fields are going to vary a lot, from crop fields to grown up cover. The maps will show which ones have ponds on them.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Stay away from yahoos and you'll be fine. You don't have to hunt with the big groups. They want you to because they think that's how you get pheasants. They're farmers and don't know a thing about birddogs. Btw, a yahoo is anyone who doesn't hunt with dogs on a regular basis. Those poor souls don't realize that the dogs will bump a few birds, but that they will see far more by the end of the day because of the dogs. Just scout Friday evening, and let Tony know which field you would like to hunt Saturday morning. If you fall in with us that'll be alright too. We will be a 3 man 1 kid group with 3 ep's and 1 fat Labrador.

I will never ever understand why anyone would want to walk a field with 20 guys and 8 dogs running around just scaring the birds up into the air and blasting away at them. The walk and block scheme just doesn't sound like hunting. Go to a tower shoot instead and just blast away at them.
Say When.....
