a Median county rancher was murdered on his own property. Medina county sheriff has charged Shane Outlaw 26, of Devine with shooting and killing James Rodriquez 59. Rodriquez brother in law was also shot but is recovering. BE ALERT even on your own land or lease....this happened 50 miles west of San Antonio

We were just working dogs with my cousins right around this property a few weeks ago too. Scary thought. Just when you think stuff like this doesn't happen around you then it does...

Dang. Scary stuff. Here are more details, and it sounds like a pretty wild story. Guy, aside from having a very appropriate name, was also in and out of rehab.

I wonder why he pushed his step-grandad out of a moving vehicle and went straight to that ranch, according to police.

A prison cell for 25 to life will be good rehab.

So what's the point of this thread?? Nut cases exist everywhere, fueled by media reports resulting in "Copycats".
Then the private schools opt out of campus carry. I wonder if the college president will remember the opt out the next time some "troubled" student decides to take some target practice on a "safe" campus? confused2

With all due respect, what in the world are you talking about?

It's possible this could be a few things, depending on a person's point of view, none of which involve carry rights on university campuses or copycats:

1) could be a heads up to someone that lives in the area that there could be a drug problem, which possibly led to a property owners murder
2) could be a heads up for someone that might have known the hunter or the killer or their families
3) could be a reminder to not always confront someone driving on your land in a stolen Hummer, or if you do, be more cautious
4) could just be relaying a sad story that includes hunters to members of a hunting forum
5) could be a heads up in the event something more comes out, like the property owner was dealing drugs (for example)

It literally is interesting to people for any number of reasons, but I don't think it will cause copycats or universities to rethink allowing concealed carry rights on campus. In fact, the only reason I heard about it is because it was mentioned on a hunting forum, because it hasn't been covered outside of local media that I can tell.

Just another reason to always carry when out in the woods. The hogs/varmints are reason enough, but a tweaker or poacher is what I fear walking up on more than that.

The relationship between hunters and landowners who lease from them is at the top of the list when it comes to ensuring the future of the sport. But I'm sure there are those who would like to see hunting limited to landowners only.

Thanks for sharing.

You hit the nail on the head.

A buddy on our lease did business with the victim. RIP. Prayers for the family.

It's a shame. Most landowners will confront trespassers on their property. I have and will continue to do so. Probably not a smart thing to do, but I don't care.
