Any opinions on this? I have 2 boys that each have a rifle that look darn near the same and I would like to do one of these methods to help keep clear who's rifle is who's.... Those with boys would understand!!

Whats the +/- of doing one over the other?

Cerekote isn't permanent it can be sand blasted off but it is very durable compared to dipping from what I understand. I think your options are much greater for custom stuff using cerekote as well.

How about having a gold trigger put on one of them

back when we used to eat housecats we marinated them in louisiana hot sauce and soy sauce then season them with lemon pepper........then onto the grill slow cooking them 3 hours........excellent folded in tortillas and pico de gallo----Newgulf

Thought about the trigger but they both agreed they would like something different.

Are they higher priced good rifles or "pickup beaters"? If the latter how about a simple rattle can camo paint job?

Depending on how much you paid, if you Cerakote or dip, those processes can cost as much as the rifles. I am cheap, but if they have wood stocks I could not rattle can them.

I have a youth shotgun for my boy and I was thinking the same thing this weekend. The barrel looks good but the receiver has never looked right.

Both rifles have synthetic stocks... may be leaning more for a dip since they are starters

I'm too lazy and cheap for all that... I'd just ask your wife if you can borrow a dab of her nail polish. Tell her that you want "Hooker Red", she'll know what you are talking about.

Put a dab of the red polish somewhere where it won't get rubbed off, like in a screw slot - and there you go!

Another cheap dodge is to rub a white laundry marker (grease pencil) across the lettering on the barrel. Wipe off the excess so that now just the lettering is white. I used to do this on M14's, it works great.

Save you a lot of time and trouble.

cerakote is for hard surface, not on the plastic/synthetic materials. Cerakote requires heat and maybe too much for the stocks. I'm thinking dipping or the rattle can camo would be your better choice. There is a world of patterns to pick from, the boys can express themselves very easily.

I'm no expert on the subject, but I've seen some Glocks with cerakoting.

There is a bake on and an air dry cerekote. The bake on is tougher and more resistant to wear and tear but you can do hard plastics with the air dry.

There are two kinds of Cerakote, thermal cure and air cure. I have sprayed a bunch of both. Generally you use thermal cure on metal and bake it for 2 hours at 250 degrees. However, an alternate cure is 3 hours at 175 for polymer framed handguns like Glocks, that is the way they do it at the NIC factory. Some stocks and all optics you don't even want to bake at 175 though, and for those you can use the air cure Cerakote. Not quite as tough as the thermal cure, but still pretty dang good.
