Well I got up about 5:30 this morning and headed to the blind. As much as I wanted to drag the boy out of bed to redeem himself for his missed shot last week, the ol lady wouldn't let me. Said hunting wasn't considered an excused absence. Go figure! Anyhow, didn't see much any movement til about 8:30. A small four pointer came out and browsed on acorns for about 20 min. Didn't pay attention to the corn. Then about 15 min later this 8 point showed up about 150 yrds away. When I went to pull the gun up I hit the roof of the box blind, and just like that he started trotting off into the brush. At first I was a little pissed that I did that, but then a thought crossed my mind. I then picked up my black rack and pounded them together for about 10 seconds and followed with a few grunts. Keep in mind I've never rattled one in before and I knew it was a long shot. I'll be damned if the buck came hauling butt out of the brush, and within 5 seconds he was standing broadside at about 75 yrds! The rest was history. Talk about and adrenaline filled 30 seconds. This is my second deer to date. My first was a six, and now an eight. He may not be a monster, but he's a trophy to me! The color of his antlers are pretty cool too! Now I can focus the rest of the season on getting my 8yr old his first deer.

Call him stubs bc of how the tines aren't very pointy. Nice buck.

He's a trophy, don't underestimate how nice a deer that is. He's chocolate horned and has a double throat patch. I'd hang him on the wall.

And because he has Stubbs BBQ sauce all over his horns.

That's a good one no matter how long you've been hunting. And yeah, the dark horns are great!

Great deer. And a great dad getting the kiddo involved when the whole thing is relatively new to you. We need more dads like you.

I actually rattle in the blind as close to the windows as I can get, but this was the first time one came running in wanting to fight. I have had a spike and a 4 point casually stroll out of the woods a on a couple of occasions, but not like this guy. The box blind I built does have pretty big windows though. I think that if they were small I would probably climb out or open the back door and rattle.
