My wife and I were hunting in Cotulla the last couple of days. Yesterday morning we had corned a sendero and were just watching to see what would come in. We noticed the young bucks were aggravating the does and being a general nuisance. About 30 yds from us, a doe was being followed by another doe. We thought this odd until we looked closer and noticed this doe had a package. We looked extra careful to see if there might be spikes or buttons on the head but this deer was a total slickhead and she/he had a pecker. We do want to take this deer out of the herd but have to be careful we're shooting the right one. I have seen does with horns but has anyone seen a deer such as this? My wife is no stranger to whitetails as she has been involved with TTHA and TDA and comes from a strong hunting background but she has never seen this before either.

I have never heard of it before, but I'd bet it isn't a 1st. Why didn't you shoot it right then when you had her/him pegged?

Years ago in my native CO I show what I thought was a big cow elk during the muzzleloader season. When I rolled the "cow" over I saw it had danglins. The top of the skull where the pedicle for growing antlers should be was really soft and kind of spongy. Normally I boned out elk and left evidence of sex on part of the carcass but I couldn't do that in this case so I halved the carcass and left the head attached. I had a game biologist check it out and he said it was just some sort of defect in the animal. I wonder if the same thing is true of the deer you saw?

That was our intention. It followed the doe into the brush and a few minutes later 5 more deer popped out. We tried to ID the same deer again but couldn't at the time. Next time we go down, he will be hunted very hard.

As soon as I or she gets him, I'll post a pic on here of him. Shes deadly with her 22-250. She nailed a coyote Thursday at 225 yds. I was impressed.
