Here is equipment I have:
2013 f150 4x4 2012. Polaris ranger - single row Honda 4 wheeler 5x10 trailer 5x12 trailer
I'm able to keep the trailers and toys at our property so don't have a lot of travel back and forth. But we do use the trailers around the property for any number of things. I need a trailer to haul the Polaris to other property. I'm leaning towards keeping the 5x10, selling the 5x12 and buying a 6' or wider trailer.
My current thoughts are a 77" x 14' trailer single axle that has front side access to get 4 wheeler on sideways. Seems to give us the most flexibility in being able to haul both machines. I've got a new trailer in one and like how it is made. Not mandatory to haul both but nice to have.
Should I go tandem axle? Maybe just buy a 12' trailer? Anyone else experienced similar dilemma? What did you buy? How did it turn out?

Just get yourself a 6.5x16 tandem with gate on side and rear. Will do everything you need with a little extra room for growing. If given the choice, I would never use a single axle trailer again

I would worry about control while pulling a load and getting a flat. If you have the option then better safe than sorry. Dual axles give me some piece of mind. Plus I can haul more if needed.

A trailer is an investment. They don't wear out. Buy more trailer than you need. Forget single axle. Dual axles brakes all around. Farm plates.

No farm plates unless you will be hauling things within 150 miles of your farm that look like farm related loads. It's gonna get harder and harder to get around trailer laws

Tandem axle would be great but to stay within budget I'll need to get one that is less quality. I will carry a spare tire.
Good thoughts. Keep them coming.

I have a single axle 14' long 8' wide trailer that has the spot for a 4 wheeler on front sideways and full ramp on the back that I no longer need (sold my ranch and no longer haul my mule). If you think you might be interested shoot me a PM.
It's 5 or 6 years old and has a few boards that are getting soft but overall it's in pretty good shape. Tires are 2 years old and it has a spare.

I started with a 6X12 single and went to a 77X16 tandem with brakes. Best decision I ever made. Found it for $950 used. Keep your eyes peeled on Craigslist and be ready to move as soon as you find it.

You can't get Farm plates now unless you have a tax id. Luckily my horse and 20 ft flatbed I am still able to get by with. Never had an issue.

Ag exemption not tax id. Unless something changed again. Running them on my trailers.

You need a state ag tax exemption number. Just to clarify, an ag exemption from the county for property tax is not the same as the ag tax exemption from the state. The state tax id is what you will use to get farm tags.

You need a state ag tax exemption number. Just to clarify, an ag exemption from the county for property tax is not the same as the ag tax exemption from the state. The state tax id is what you will use to get farm tags. Texas Agriculture or Timber Registration. Issued by the Office of the Comptroller. Has to be renewed at certain intervals, mine is good through 12/31/2015.

Used to be you could go buy a trailer and tell the salesman "ag exempt" to keep from paying the sales tax. Now you have to have the Ag ID mentioned above to be able to qualify for the non sales tax exemption. Also, all trailers over the 4501 carrying capacity are required to have an electric brake and a state inspection every year to renew plates. If your tax accessor collection office is still giving you farm plates without showing them your Ag # then consider yourself lucky. Gone are the days of saving money on trailers.
The good news is they have restructured the way they price to renew your trailer plates, it's quite a few dollars cheaper now. My big trailer used to cost about $115 to renew and now it's down to $80ish.

Do you have the room to maneuver a 16' traileron the ranch?
If so, get a 16' tandem axle (3500# x 2), and a pipe top. I have a 5' x 8' single, a 77" x 16' tandem, and a 32' x 8' 6" tandem dual. The 16' trailer gets used more than the other two combined. The 8' needs to be a 10' or 12' to be very useful. I wouldn't feel comfortable putting a side by side AND a four wheeler on a single 3500# axle trailer, trailer tires dry rot, they don't get worn out from miles.

Definitely have enough room to maneuver a 16' trailer.
Will a Honda 4 wheeler and Polaris ranger (1 row) for on 16' trailer without having to turn the 4 wheeler sideways? I think so because both of them have parts that can sit above the front rail. Just wondering what y'all have experience with. 4 wheeler can be easy to turn sideways but prefer not to unless there is a separate side ramp.

I'll bet they are both less than 8' long, so yes they will fit.

The dual 3500s in a 77x16 with brakes and a spare should run in the $$1600-$1800 range

I went from a 5x10 with a full gate to a 6.5x12 with a bi-fold gate, and it makes a tremendous difference.

Ranger is 114" and the 4 wheeler is 80". Total just over 16'. The 4 wheeler is less than 4' wide so plenty of room if turning it sideways. But the wheelbases are shorter.

Id get some cheap aluminum ramps that you can put on the side of the pipe wall at the front of the trailer.. you could drive the wheeler up and park it sideways at the front then pull up the UTV... lots of ways to make it work
