Hello Everyone

I am new to this forum and as well to hunting.

My name’s Gabriel, Swiss, working in the middle east, missing pork smile That’s why I decided to get myself a hunting bow with all necessary equipment to shoot some of the many wild boars in the area. (The farmers will love me for that)

Well.. Sounded easier than it actually is. I located a very good area where I spotted some pigs, almost everytime I go out there. But most of the time I just hear them and if I see them they are too far away for a shot as they mostly come out at night.

What I have tried was baiting them. The problem is that all the recipes like sour corn and stuff like that, they don’t seem to like. They don’t go for it. I have tried corn, chickpeas (which are local), melons and so on.

So my question to you guys is if any of you have an idea on how to bait them. Anything is appreciated.

Gabriel

What are the pigs eating in the area you hunt? Copy that but in larger portions and numerous areas.

One think I have noticed is that if there is food aplenty nearby, they almost completely ignore my bait regardless.

Best bait I have had luck with in the area I hunt when food is scarce is fermented corn. Basically just throw it in a bucket with hot water, activated yeast, and a bunch of sugar. All you are doing is trying to brew shine without distilling it, you do not want it to go to rot. In hot weather, this only takes a couple days, in cold weather, about a week. They seem to like it pretty well. You can try adding a couple packs of kool-aid to it too. I used to think it helped a lot, but I'm not so sure now. First year I did it they were all over it, the second, they seemed to avoid it. Maybe they learned, lol.

Shot my first turkey today...Scared the crap out of everyone in the frozen food section, it was awesome!

Try diesel or used motor oil on a some rags tied around a tree. They will come to rub on it. Good luck.

anytime you change what you are feeding or put out something strange I find they take 3-4 days before they will come to it. So, how long have you been leaving one type of food out for them?

Thanks for all the comments. I know the baiting thing is an age old topic, but I thought that someone maybe has some experience hunting in places outside US.

Never heard of the expression "non PC". So I don't know exactly what you mean.

Anyway.. @Freeman.. I was waiting up to 2 weeks. And i did see a coyote eating my bait. But the ones i buried were untouched.

But I will definitely try the diesel. Heard it before but couldn't believe smile

@Dalee.. There's plenty of oaks. Guess they love that stuff.

Another thing to consider, the food supply here is abundant due to all of the rain this year. The hogs have no need to come to a feeder or bait. That may be same situation where you are.
