Hunted tonight on a stand with a questionable wind. Had a 6 point come directly downwind from me. Walked a full circle around me. Got underneath my feet at 5 yards. Never spooked at all. I was all jacked up on how great my scent killer system worked. I had showered, shampooed, sprayed and was pretty much as scent tight as I possibly could be. About 20 minutes later, a doe came out 50 yards away. She wasn't directly down wind. More of a crosswind and put her nose in the air and blew...and blew and blew.

Doe may be more familiar with your stand than the buck and she knows to scrutinize everything about the scent coming from it. Or it could have been the thermals or wind swirls took the scent out further.

I don't know. That was the first time I've hunted at this land this year. They've had 0 pressure for 2 years.

Probably the way the wind was working then, then add the fact the buck isn't thinking all str8 right now either.

If bucks are rutting they don't care what you smell like, as long as you do not small like a doe. I walked up within 30 yards of three bucks this weekend, and I was upwind (one was about 10 yards). All of them saw me clearly and they never even spooked, they just went on looking for does. I just continued on walking and they didn't even care, I climbed in the blind and they didn't even respond, it is like they were blind and couldn't hear or smell. But the does are still as cautious as always.

All that "scent system" stuff is a waste of money. Hunting the wind is free and fool proof.
