Well, after learning about the CTR from a different thread here, I researched and ordered one in 308. It will be used for hunting by my sons and for mid-range paper/steel shooting by me.

From those who have one... what are some good factory loads that the rifle likes? In my 308 hunting rifle, I've always used Core-lokts. One of my sons has a Tikka in 25-06 and, although they are a little tight, has had success with Hornady SSTs.. My question is.. . I want to pick up a few boxes of different types of factory ammo and see how they work in the rifle and was wondering what you all have found success with?

I've always wanted to try the Barnes tipped triple shocks, but other than that dont really have much experience.

Thanks!

Skip the triple shocks

Find some 168 Hornady tap or self defense. Same same

Federal Sgk 165/168

I have had good luck with, the Federal Premium 165 gr Sierra Gameking, in the 30/06, The 308 should be even more consistent. The 168 gr Match King would be very similar for targets/steel.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

I have a tikka CTR .308, it shot federal premium 168's great, but I was having a hard time find it regularly in stores, so I contacted Chad and ordered 100rds of "BULK MATCH 168gr AMAX" and it shoots just as good if not better. You're going to be happy with this combo. It is extremely accurate - I don't own measuring calipers to give you an exact group size, but multiple 5 shot groups that fell within the size of a dime at 100 yards, and 5 shots within a quarter at 200 yards, all these being shot prone from a bipod and rear sand bag. The only upgrade I made was to get rid of the factory stock. Can't go wrong with Chad's ammo being shipped directly to your door,'I have since ordered a couple hundred more to have on hand.

I have had two Tikka 308s, and shot others, they were all extremely accurate with a variety of loads.
168 AMAX is deadly...

+1 on Chads ammo. 168 grain amax bulk shoots touching hole groups out of my 5R Remmy. Very consistent ammo.
