Looking at trying out a cross bow for next year. Narrowed it down to a Barnett Brotherhood or a Barnett Jackal, due to price and reviews. Looking for experienced opinions on them or maybe one that I may have missed.

I own the Barnett Penetrator which was basically the Brotherhood exclusive to Dicks a few years ago. Hits hard and fast and pretty darn accurate.

I just bought the brotherhood for my sons Christmas present. After all the reviews I read that seemed like the best bargain for the money! He hasn't got to shoot it yet but I'm pretty confident it will be a good bow for him.

You might check out the PSE Fang. Really good reviews except for the scope. I also just saw where Crosman has a few crossbows. Might be out of your price range, but the sniper 175 caught my attention.

Are you looking for a hunting crossbow for the kid or one they can shoot on their own?

Barnett makes some youth versions of the recruit in low poundages that are not legal for deer. Problem with the Barnetts is poor string quality, they are having major issues with strings breaking even on the youth bows. Daisy makes a youth recurve at lower poundage as well.

Parker makes the very good little Challenger that is light weight and good hunting poundage. A 6 year old could not draw that bow. Lifetime warranty on the parker also.

PSE Fang is too heavy for most kids.

OOPS wrong thread. Same here about Barnett string quality though, they are having issues across many of there line of bows. In the OP price range or slightly more some places have the Parker Bushwacker on clearence, good bow lifetime warranty

I have a Barnett Jackel that I would sell or trade for a good pistol or a .17 rifle . It's very fast and accurate. I can put 3 arrows inside a quarter at 50 yards with it.

Barnett Brotherhood is a beast. I shoot it, my son and wife have all taken game with it. From big hogs to deer to coyotes
you wont have to upgrade. I would buy the cranking cocking device for them. Because it is stout.... it has 20/30/40 yrd reticle and is dead on at these distances.
