during off season take them to range to put a lot of lead down range. I mean a lot. Get him used to the rifle. Other than that, sounds like your doing a great job. Sounds just like my nephew. I still have to clean his fish. Little turd. Just learned that his dad didn't solo clean his first deer until 14. Now after years of cleaning, hes the fastest I've seen and he gets all the meat and leaves the guts in. Go figure.

You're teaching, not nagging. Reminding him of the same problem repeatedly means he is still making the same mistake. As long as your reminding isn't agressive sounding, and I'm sure it's not. More shooting won't hurt. Feel free to come back to the range with him any time. With trigger control, something I've done with any age person is have them put their finger on the trigger then I put mine over theirs. Then I squeeze the trigger with their finger between mine and the trigger. It works, explaining only goes so far with some people. Letting them feel how it is supposed to be done helps. Including follow through!

Everyone gets buck fever. As much as I shoot I can work through it, but because I shoot so much is why I think I can manage the nerves. Looking down a scope about to take a life is serious business. Except hogs, screw them! smile

Texas Dan said it well "It also sounds like you want him to kill a deer more than he does".

Killing a large animal shouldn't come easy to anyone IMO. Not scolding him or questioning him about his judgement makes you a great Dad in my book.
