Here in young county again. Kicked up two while still hunting deer in a creek bottom on my lease. My wood ducks blew out with this first freeze, but the woodcock blew in with it. Being this far west is very unusual and when they do show up here they never stay long. I will be lucky if they are still around when season opens. I may take Dash down and hunt them with a camera. Quail BTW still have not returned and may be gone here forever.

When does the season open?

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

The first few have drifted in at my place in Houston county. I hear them going back to the woods at dawn and flying out again at dusk. It will sound like missiles being constantly launched by January. Can't wait to take Miss Jenny and get after them.

Season opens December 15 Bill.

That reminds me. I found a pocket of them in Oklahoma last year again west for their normal range. It was well after the OK season when I noticed them. They are in season up there right now till Dec.15. Sounds like that might be where I go next.

Yes Sir. Ended last year with only 6, but now we know what we are doing. Hope to get more this year!

It's cool you got into that A.B. Not many of us woodcock hunters around. Sniper John looking forward to your great hunt threads this year. Be safe in your travels.

I saw four while on a quail hunt on Saturday.
Out north of Abilene.

Haven't seen any in a long time.

Jumped several off one of my old logging roads coming back from the deer stand tonight. It is getting close!
