I shot a fairly large bobcat this weekend. Have been trying for one for years & something always happened . But not this weekend, setting way up on a mesa w/Ar10 and 160 yard shot. She is my first Bobcat , and will be a life-sized mount Took her to Rust Taxidermy in Cisco Tx, Taxi said she was a exceptionally large female & should make a nice mount. Base price is $700 plus any fancy base. He said skin will be sent out next week for tanning and he will get it back in 90days. I have until that time to decide on how I want her mounted. SO can the forum members post pics of there mounts or ideas with links to pictures.

Thanks Hetman(aka Steve)

I have 2 mounted and my favorite one is an open mouth rug

I also like mounts where the belly spots are more visible

A buddy and I shot two in south Texas a few years back. I had mine mounted with her creeping up on a quail in some short grass. My buddy mounted his where it was almost jumping straight up with a quail on its paw. Both mounts came out pretty good. When I get back to the farm in a couple of days, I'll send you a pic.

Gotta do the quail-leap thing. Although, if I'm lucky enough to ever shoot a good one, I'll probably do an open-mouth rug 'cause that's what my grandfather had.

Wonder if they could do one of a crouching cat creeping up on a quail in some 6-7 inch grass?

A buddy of mine had his bobcat mounted laying down and had it perched on an exposed beam in the ceiling of his house. I don't know how many times it almost got shot again.

I think that a bobcat is probably one of the most difficult animals for a taxidermist to do well. The vast majority of them come out looking ridiculous, silly and embarrassing. Very few taxidermist can do them well. In fact, looking at their bobcat pictures is the easiest way to find a good one. Those who do bad bobcat mounts and post picture of them don't have a clue of what they are doing, and even worse, don't understand that posting pictures of bad work reflects on what their other work is like.

Keeping it simple is going to give you the best results. Action, open mouth, snarling or being aggressive just increases the odds that you will end up with something that people will laugh about behind your back.

If I ever shoot a big male bobcat, I am definitely making the drive to let you do it and have it mounted just like that. That is an awesome mount and beautiful cat, very very nice work.

Awesome work! If I ever get a nice size cat, I will be calling. Once again, nice mount.
