Went out Friday night with Dave Krebs, a guide out of Wichita Falls, and a couple of his clients from Minnesota. Turns out that one of his hunting areas is close to where I hunt in Montague County. We spent the first part of the evening looking at various thermal scopes and then we headed out for some field testing. South winds were strong and animal activity low. Around 2:00 AM, the winds dropped off to nearly zero and this coyote came cruising through the pasture.

We waited a short while to see if any other hogs or predators appeared, but within minutes, we heard the roar of winds coming through the distant trees and over the hill toward us. At first it sounded like a distant truck, and then like a train. The sound was pretty intense, hearing the sound for 20 seconds or so ... and then we were blasted by the northerly cold front that moved through the area. The strong winds and significant temperature drop stressed the cattle that started mooing gathering together in a tight group. Given their reaction, we figured the other animals were likely hunkering down as well and despite hunting for another couple of hours, nothing else showed up.

Nice going. Looks like you guys were "Whistling past the (coyote) graveyard" in a manner of speaking.
