Most my 30-06 shooting has been done with bolt action. I picked up a used Semi-auto and want to load up using the 150g SP I already have. None of my data specifies use in SA. I have info for my Garand that takes into account the pressure range needed to operate without twisting up the op rod.

Any hints on loads?

Is the Woodsmaster a delicate flower or can I just use a recipe from Lyman or Hodgdon without any concern?

I use my Grandpa's Woodsmaster that he bought new in the 50s. He used Corelokt 150gr, and that's what I use as well. I tried some others, but the best grouping I could get was with the Corelokt.

Same here. Only thing I ever shot in my Woodsmaster was Corelokts.

I don't see any reason to differ from book loads.

The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

That's where I intended to start but I didn't know if there were any ideal pressure ranges for a SA that might affect my powder choice (other than is it a powder sitting in my garage already.)

I'd use AA2460 powder.
30/06 - 46.5 gr. with Hornady Soft Points

Any semi-auto that operates with a op-rod and spring needs the correct ignition and burn to snap it back quickly. Faster burning powders are best. Slower burning powders develop pressure over a longer period of time and thus cause damage. In MOST cases, standard factory offerings should be OK, as they're designed to shoot in just about any gun. You'd have a better all around load by reloading your own and finding the actual load that your rilfe likes best.

* This load is safe in my M1 and M70 and shoots MOA or better. Work up all loads accordingly.

I'm asking for reloading data here. I'll give the AA2460 a try. I don't know how mushy the spring is in this rifle yet so there's another mystery.

With handguns I like to order new springs from Wolff for recoil and mag then start my data search. A soggy spring will give you fits when you try to match a load.

I have two Rem 742's and load 58.0 gr IMR 4350 with 150 gr bullets. Not a real heavy load. I don't believe that action can take much abuse.

With their track record, that's a good bet. I had a really good one and wish I hadn't sold it but I've seen several that wouldn't cycle.

when i loaded for a 30/06 742 i used
W748 and then AA2520. standard loads
no hotrod as for bolt guns. i'd think
you'd do better trying to get close to
a factory load. a smith told me some years
back to not run a 742 too hot.that's what
causes problems with them he said. close
to 2500-2700 fps if i could he said.
there is some truth in that. you don't
need 3000 fps to kill a deer with a 30/06.
keep the gunk out and feed it mid range
loads and it should outlast you. the
7400 i have now was filthy when i got
it and after i cleaned all the soot out
of it, it shot and cycled just fine.
good luck

I keep running into info related to cleanliness just to be sure it cycles so I started breaking the gun down for a complete scrubbing. The barrel nut is soaking in kroil. I'll clean and polish before I get to the range just to rule out gun issues.

Thanks for the tips on avoiding max loads.

i wouldn't take the barrel aloose from the
action. if i remember right, they're installed
a certain way and torqued to spec.
it can be cleaned adequately with the barrel
in place. you'll probably want to get one
of those chamber brushes from brownell's with
the t-handle and it's made of cable just for
the purpose of cleaning remingtons and bar's
and such

I gave up on trying to get the nut loose. Still waiting on free time to run to the range. Working cuts into my day.
