I had an uncle pass away a few months back and I got his 22-250 in Rem 700 with a Weaver K6 scope on it.
Was gonna get a new modern scope and deck it out but decided to see how it shot first.

Took it to the bench yesterday and it was about 2 feet off when I checked it with the bore at 100 yard. A few adjustments later and I was an inch high at 100.

Shot a half inch group with it at 100 with good old Remington Core Lock ammo.

Then went down to field and there were about 40-50 hen turkeys under the feeder at about 200 yards. One shot later I had my first kill with it.

Think I will keep the old Weaver scope on it. The only rifle I plan to hunt with this year.

Sounds like a plan! Always nice to hunt with grandpas gun, sadly my cousins lived closer to my grandpa than I did and they took all the guns. 1 of them was willed to me, but they claim he didn't have it anymore

I had to replace my old weaver after 35 years. It finally quit holding zero. Check it a again after a few trips. It cost me a good buck opening day a few years ago. I checked it after missing and was only off 18" at 100. Same thing a few weeks laster.

Congrats on your harvest! good choice of caliber, on turkeys just a base of the neck
shots work great, less meat damage, body shots limit amount of meat your gonna have
for the table!....

Also easy caliber to reload, for really nice loads!

hunt safe,,,,,

I own several different rifles, but something about the 22-250 intrigues me. Most of my shots are under 150 yards. Mostly neck and high shoulder shots. Occasionally a heart/lung shot. I have shot over a dozen deer. No problems.I use Winchester soft points. Fun gun to hunt with.

Please dont attempt this. Unethical by all means and a good way to blow a jaw off its face. A cruel way to shoot a deer. There head is always moving at any time.

Whistle at em and shoot right between the eyes. Nothing unethical about that.

If you are being serious that is very sad.

I've never had much interest in the 22-250 until the past year but it has been growing on me. Since I have an AR and a 22-250 seems somewhat redundant but I still might get one.

What's sad about that? A whistle stops them dead still and they look right at you. You get an instantly dead animal, no tracking and clean to gut with no blood in the body cavity. The only sad thing is how they look with the back of their head blown off and their eyes popped out of socket. It's the quickest and cleanest way to kill a deer.

- And this is why most sportsmen would not touch a 22-250 for deer hunting with a ten-foot pole.

Put on your big girl panties and use a cartridge that shoots a large enough bullet to do the job right.

Kind regards, charlesb

This is always a question of bullet selection and shot placement.

At the last company I worked for, we had a ranch in south Texas for big time clients. The ranch manager was this awesome, old school Mexican guy. Our ceo was a huge gun guy so he always had a 308 and 30-06 for clients to use. But the ranch manager always culled with his 22-250. He was an excellent shot with his old ruger and 6x scope out to 200-250 yards. I've been with him on some of these and they seldom ever ran. Even used it on large hogs, which some then got pretty big.

Once again, he was an excellent shot. Bullet selection and placement.
