they're cheap, heavy, ugly, and reliable. It's a great starter gun, but you could also just save up another $100 and find a decent used gun elsewhere.

Don't bring a Hi Point to a gun fight, it might jam.

I have a 9mm in my truck. It's dirty, it's ugly, it's heavy, but I pull the trigger it goes bang! Had 1 jam up in 4 yrs. Lifetime warranty and if someone steals it it's not a big deal. Got a buddy that has a Taurus, it jams up bout every 10 rounds. Like anything sometimes you'll get a lemon I guess. Plus if I ever get in trouble and something happens I can throw it at what I'm aiming at and knock it out!
cheers

At $200 used, are you sure it is the pistol and not the carbine?

The Hi Points seem to be liked by the people who actually own them - they are known to do what they were designed to do. Cabelas = $170. new.

On the other hand, for a few bucks more....... Look at the 9mm (15+1) Tristar C100 or T100. Made in Turkey by Canik. Google them, nothing but rave reviews with experiences like mine - perfect. I found mine used for $230.

I agree with everything except "reliable". You get a good gun or a bad gun. If you get a good one, you are alright, if you get a bad one, it will spend alot of time going back and forth to the factory for repairs. (Although, I hear customer service is good).

I would recommend spending a bit more and getting a better pistol.

Cabela's has the Smith & Wesson SDV series on sale for $299.99. I think that is a good deal.

Everybody always gets defensive and has to justify the purpose of buying That giant brick pos.

Do yourself a favor and shop around , especially with a $300 budget.

Academy has the S&W SDVE for $289 plus a $25 Academy gift card. That was the price in yesterday's ad.

Had a High Point 9mm, put hundreds of rounds through with no issues. Had the 9mm carbine, couldn't get it to run. FTF every 3-4 rounds.
