Is a half hour before sunrise to SUNSET too hard to grasp for duck hunters. And people wonder why birds fly early and late as the season progresses.

In regard to your first sentence, I agree it is ridiculous the shooting that happens before legal, especially on public water. Where I was open weekend a volley of shots rang out 15 minutes before legal, that was the worse I have seen. On a positive note, no one else shot till legal, and that was amazing, because normally when one starts shooting they all say "game on".

In regard to your second sentence, not sure I understand it. But my philosophy on it (and I very well could be wrong), is you take a population of birds, and some will fly earlier, and some will fly late, as a habit. So the birds that fly early, they live, they get scared off by hunters, and find a safe place to land before legal. Birds that fly after legal, by habit, they die. So as the season progresses, you are left with birds that fly early.

That shot 15 minutes before LST on opening day could have been the GW just waiting to see who followed shooting afterward to fine them. It has happened before, shooting after the first one before legal LST is never a good idea.

That would be entrapment.

Really? Can you further explain entrapment?

Many topwaters think you can hunt waterfowl until sunset like deer. Have to read the migratory federal regs, I've seen many people get ticketed for this.

Okay, I am done with trying to help some people, go ahead and blast away and claim entrapment in court. Good luck with that.

I did blast a big rattle snake a 4 am two years ago. There was a guy letting his dog run wild around the pparking area through the brush and stuff, I asked him if he was worried about his dog getting bit. He said nah, been huntin here for 20 years, ain't no rattle snakes here. I cut the head off and hung it by his truck for him to see when he got back.

I don't do afternoon duck hunts often so I don't hear a lot of late shots, but dove hunting is whole different deal. Lots of late shooters there.

Early shooters almost every time I hunt. Sometimes a few minutes, no biggie, but other times 15 minutes. I shoot like chit at LST when it's still kinda dark so I can't imagine how those really early shooters are doing any good anyway.
