Always wear gloves when picking gras burrs from your dogs.

... or when picking up a quail downed in sand burrs. Grabbed one the dogs refused to pick up this week and it had 7 - 8 burrs in it. Ouch.

I picked one up the other day that had apparently been hiding in some prickly pear.
Not fun.

I can't feel them good enough with gloves on to be able to remove them good, I just deal with a little pain and get it done. Now when a dog comes running up to me with 6-8 sections of chulla cactus stuck to their side. I get my pliers out for those.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

When hunting in West Texas in the chulla cactus, I carry one of those Afro hair comb/pic in my vest to deal with this bad azz stuff. Control the dog and pick it right out without touching it. Hardest part for me is getting the chulla cactus out of a dog's mouth and throat after they have panicked and bit it. Does anyone have a proven method for that?
