I really want to put a Boyds on my American. What color did you get? Post some pictures when you're done!

There are bedding kits and compounds you can order (midway below). I have used some in the past with good results. That said, search youtube and you will get some good advice and techniques. Many I've seen recommend Marine-Tex and almost all I've watched use simple Johnson Paste Wax as the release agent. Focus on the prep and wax and give it a try.

I've installed 9-10 Boyds stocks on rifles and haven't needed to glass bed any of them. I check the fit on everyone of them, and very few needed any further sanding to have the actions fit in them solid.

The inletting on the Boyds stocks really is amazing. - The best I've ever seen.

Having said that, I bedded mine anyway.

Devcon "Steel" epoxy, plumbers putty, petroleum jelly release agent.

Kind regards, charlesb

That nutmeg color looks really nice. When it comes in, post a picture or two for us.

I have a boyds prairie huntergoing on a ruger american right now.it's the peppered color. Alamo precision has it and they are going to bed and cerakote the metal. I'll post pics when I get it. Should be ready soon

Ive kinda grown tired of the black laminate and nutmeg. So many guns out there in that color. I ordered the green camo whatever color on a gun a while back and have grown to like it a lot more lately.

Got this one recently for a win 70.

Coyote.

I think next time I might go for Zombie. (Black and day-glo green)

The critters are color-blind, it's all camo as far as they are concerned.

I wanted the pepper, but now I have another gun with that so I'm thinking Coyote, Zombie or maybe Applejack.

Charlesb, love the coyote color scheme. Thinking of ordering the same stock. Is that the standard or high gloss finish?

I order all of my Boyd's stocks unfinished since I have to enlarge the barrel channels on most of them. I also finish sand and shape each one to my liking, and then put a hand rubbed Tung oil finish on each one. 10 coats, and wet sanded between coats. If a matte finish is desired, then use 0000 steel wool on the last coat after it dries.
6.5-06- Color is Royal Jacaranda

223- Black & Grey

7mm-08 and 6.5 Creedmoor- Nutmeg

308- Blue/Grey/Black The blue is a lot darker than the picture, the flash on the camera made it look really light blue.

Ruger 10/22 Evolution stock- Royal Jacaranda

Gotta ask about the Boyd's Thumbhole VT's...does the near verticle right hand wrist grip help with reducing recoil? or are the calibers these beautimous examples not using sufficient recoil caliber wise to generate much thump.

Really need to find something to compensate with in the future besides gross weight and a Limbsaver for some of the calibers I used to be able to shoot from off my forehead (at least on a dare over campfire whiskey) with the hyper sensitive right shoulder that the docs can't seem to figure out. Sold a sub moa 270 T3 composite last year to a THF'er...and still miss everything about the gun except the recoil that was doable even for load ladders off the bench with a Past Pad AND a Limbsaver at the time, but with no longterm upside in sight.

IMO Stock Shape is the next frontier to explore, beside sub 2700fps MV's aka low 50's K psi chamber pressures in a 260/270...

My Savage 110 in 7mm mag became a 35 Whelen this year and got a royal jacaranda stock from Boyd's. Bedded using Brownel's Steel Bed Kit. This rifle is going with me to Alberta in a few days for moose and whitetail.

When my 6.5 Creedmoor gets back from cerakoting it will look like this except with a bronze barrel in the Coyote color Boyd's and will be getting Steel Bed as well.

TxHillBilly,

Great looking rifles! Hate to tell you this though... Somebody put your bolts on backwards on a few of them.

I paid a little extra for the gloss finish, on the thumb-hole varmint stock.

I like that color. My 17HMR is similar but would look better a little bit darker like that.

The rubberized plastic stock to my Howa is kind of a white elephant around here now. It leans up in a corner because I can't figure out anything useful to do with it.

Replaced the factory stock on my dad's Rem. 700 .30-'06 with Boyd's laminate.

Replaced the factory stock on Rem. Model 7 7mm-08 with Boyd's walnut w/ fleur-de-lis pattern.

Boyd's laminate on my youngest daughter's Rem. 700 .270 Win.

I like Boyd's stocks. cheers

The one on the model 7 must be the 'Classic' design, it looks a lot like a Boyds Classic that I installed on an 03 Springfield a few days ago.

The customer was delighted, it is a nice looking stock. Does yours have the cheekpiece on the port side?

That's the stock.

Yup, it does.

I really like the Boyd’s stock I have for my .17 HMR

The inletting was much better than I expected it to be. Although I did bed the action (I am an accuracy nut), the fit was very good just as it came.

I am now looking at one of their classic stocks to replace the synthetic on my Daughter’s 7MM-08.
