Just the other day I was whining about a coyote I missed at 100 yards but then killed at 300. How the heck did I miss such an easy shot, I was wondering. Well, now that the floods have subsided, I was out on the hay field and found coyote number 1 right there at 100ish yards. The other was dead on the other side of the field. I shot and killed the first one, but the rifle bucked me off the sight picture just long enough to see a coyote heading north at Warp speed. I just assumed I missed that first shot and tracked and shot and hit, but it was Number 2 that I shot with the second round.
I feel better. Kinda dented my confidence to think I missed at 100 yards. Now I can go back to being insufferable. Watch me strut....Ho Ho Ho...Yay me...
Not my monkeys, not my circus...

I learned a similar lesson at an early age. It was youth weekend and I had 1 doe tag on the public land. I shot and saw a doe take off running, she stopped about 50 yards away, so I shot again. Well that was 2 doe down. We took both to the check station and I had to explain to the GW what I did. After a little lecture, he let me keep one and donate the other. Won't ever make that mistake again with a game animal. Coyotes and pigs are different story.
