We have a lease that has a couple of pastures that are 9 miles from each other. The cell phone service is sketchy at best. Are there any walkie talkies or boosters that you can put on your cell phones that will provide us with an improvement with our ability to communicate with each other? Safety and help with getting stuck or breaking down is our main concern.

There are wall plug-in cell phone boosters and they will work. One of our hunters always brings one when he comes up, but we have to get fairly close to it to make calls. Walkie Talkies are a hit or miss depending on the landscape. They flat out suck with any draws or hills

Yep, some cell phone boosters for home use do work. They also make a model for vehicle use. Do some research and you can find out which ones work well and which don't. The really good ones will run you $200 - $400.

My dad missed a great buck two years ago. It just so happened he moved in my direction after being shot at. I was about to get out of my stand when my dad called and said 'Hey, that big deer is coming your way.' 15 minutes later, BOOM.

We used carrier pigeons.. but it got expensive. They would shoot 15 of them before they limited out and finally read the damn message!

Hunting is easy..it's getting permission from your wife that is tough.

Years ago I had a guy show up with walkie talkies, I sat it on the hood of his pickup and headed to my blind. He did not ask why and I did not tell him why I sat it there. I keep my cell phone turned off while I at our place. I rarely turn it on, the only reason I carry it is an emergency and I need help. I am there for the peace and quiet, I can visit while at the cabin.

This looked interesting. Hard to justify 200 for me personally.

We use the hell out of our walkies. I guess not as much when actually hunting, but man they come in handy when out fixing stuff, loading feeders, etc. Even driving around if in two vehicles.

Not knocking you at all so please understand that before you read what I write.....

What if all the people you are calling in your emergency have the same idea and they turn them off.... I know if my wife or kids have an emergency I want my phone ON!!! And yes it has happened when I was away and we don't get good signal where I hunt BUT she got me on the phone. I guess if everyone has a hard line phone you could call them but I have not seen a hardline phone in years....

Nothing like calling someone for emergency help and it goes straight to voice mail.... just my 2cents

We swapped cell phone carriers because the reception at the ranch was much better with AT&T. You might want to look into a different carrier.
We looked into boosters, then a guy showed up with an AT&T phone and was talking to his wife. We switched.
Texting helps pass the time and communication is awesome. The wife will even send a picture of a buck and I will let her know if it is a shooter.
There are too many plus sides to communicating out there to mention. And a cell phone or walkie isn't a whole lot different than chatting with the guy that you are hunting with.
The only problem I have with cell phones in the blind is that I have to take my eyes off of the scenery to use it. I have noticed that I do not see as many varmints as I did. Either I am missing them while looking at the phone, or I've killed them all.
My wife has learned that I am not the yappy texting type and she keeps chatting to a minimum. If one of the guys sends a note, it is important enough to check.
