Savage LRP in 6.5 and a Vortex Nice rifle too. Still has a chit ejector, questionable extractor, and frequently needs to be double stroked to chamber a round. Once you get it loaded it will shoot well.

Savage has consistently won awards for out of box accuracy - They are my go to for stock rifles. That said, DO NOT go cheap on rings and glass - you will absolutely get what you pay for.

The best out of the box accuracy I have experienced so far would be a toss-up between two rifles...
A Browning A-Bolt stainless stalker in .300 WM that liked Federal premium 180 grain loads would put the first three rounds out of a cold, clean barrel within 1/2" at 100 yards - every time.
A Winchester model 1885 single-shot in 270 WSM liked my reloads and produced five-shot groups at 100 yards under 1/2 inch. Best group with the 1885 was .317" for five rounds.
Most amazing accuracy was from a pellet pistol and a pellet rifle, both in .177 caliber.
An under-lever pistol by Gamo was so nice that I could shoot dragonflys out of the air at twenty feet.
A Beeman R-1 rifle that was select for accuracy was simply astounding. With a Williams peep at the rear, and a ramped bead sight up front taken from a Winchester model 70, this rifle was literally a tack-driver at 25 yards.
I have shot pellet rifles since childhood, over 100,000 rounds would be a conservative estimate.

Not sure why the Browning x-bolt does not attract more attention. Very good shooting rifles without needing to change stuff.

Not sure why the Browning x-bolt does not attract more attention. Very good shooting rifles without needing to change stuff. Some like 'em, some don't. I love mine. I have the .270 Win. X Bolt, looking hard at the .223 Rem. with the new 1 in 8 twist. More of a hunting rig though, not really your typical long range/precision platform. It could do it!

Check out one of the Browning X-bolt rifles in .308 and these Talley rings especially for the rifle. Mount you a Zeiss scope on there and go have fun. http://www.browning.com/products/catalog...p;f3=&msrp= http://www.midwayusa.com/product/1781110...browning-x-boltAnd if you want a target barrel then consider this one: http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/detail.asp?fid=023B&cid=035&tid=337"If you're looking for a "project" rifle, that you will spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars accurizing, then this ISN'T the rifle for you. The X-Bolt Eclipse Target rifle will perform right out of the box. You don't need to add a better trigger, bed the action, free float the barrel... all of that has been done. Built for function, it comes with a Laminate thumbhole stock and raised cheekpiece. The fore end is wide and flat on the bottom, for resting on a support, be it sandbags from the bench, or a backpack in the field. The heavy bull barrel is target Crowned; designed for superb accuracy and heat dissipation."
To be determined

Can't go with you on the Zeiss, unless it's a Hensolt. They make great glass, yes, but they are not the tool for the job, shooting precise and far at the same time.

[quote=catslayerthe Ruger Precision needs to get a LOOK... especially in the 6.5[/quote]
Based on what I've read the above sounds like it'll definitely accomplish what your looking for.
I would also recommend you look at DPMS LR-65 6.5 Creedmoor. I own one and not only is it fun to shoot but it's also accurate, very accurate for an out of the box rifle. It'll easily go out to 500 yards...I know because I've done it. I bought a new scope for it a month ago and I haven't taken it out and stretched its legs since but I'm pretty sure I can take it to 700-800. Last time I shot it, 100 yds, it placed 5 rounds in .75 and 4 of them were less than .5...all were touching. A week ago I shot a turkey in the neck at 80 yards. You can find it for less than 1k.

Savage has a REALLY nice trigger out of the box as does the sako with a 2 stage.
That being said, you could also go the mossberg mvp route which has clones of both the r700 action and the savage trigger in it.

Curious if anyone has tried the Savage 10T? I think it's a Cabela's Exclusive so you probably won't find one at your local shop.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

Savage LRP in 6.5 and a Vortex Hey, I just bought one from rrflyer here! $750 with a kydex cheek rest and 20 MOA rail. First groups I put downrange after sighting in were easily 1/2 MOA. Hell of a rifle for the price. It comes with an excellent HS precision stock, and a thick barrel for varmint or benchrest work. However, these are notorious for having short (or tight) chambers, and I actually just sent it to Savage to have it remedied. Hopefully I get it back and it's still a great shooter.
