I know he isn't the biggest deer out there, but man what an experience it was to kill this deer. I've never called in a mature deer and killed it before. I set up on the edge of a tree line, sitting on the ground. I hit the horns really aggressively and grunting while rattling. I no more than sit the horns down and this guy blows over a fence looking for a fight. When it's all said and done, him and I are looking each other in the eye no more than 15 steps from each other when I shoot him. I will never forget this experience. He is 18 1/2" wide and weighed 152lbs field dressed. Killed him at my place in Ellis County.

Congrats man! That's a nice buck and I love the dark antlers! I guess your place is around Maypearl? I know some places around Bell Branch that hold some amazing deer for how close to DFW. I've heard that some of those deer have even moved up towards Midlothian.

I am going to try to rattle at my place this weekend. It's in Navarro county near Dawson. Rut appears to be in full swing for N Texas!

Great buck and a great hunt. Nothing like being on the ground eye level with a buck you rattled in. Then to kill a buck you rattled in on your own place... don't get no better cheers

Great story. We were able to rattle in some bucks last weekend. I would post a video of an 8 and 10 fighting if I could figure out how to post it.
