I got a question for the guys that hunt around eagle lake/Katy area. Do yall guys use any mallards in your spread? Do yall just use a mallard call or mix it up with a whistle and blue wing teal call?

This is my second year down here and have herd not to use mallard decoys.

Ducks are stupid. It doesn't matter on types of decoys. The only exception is that I like to add some white to the spread. Sprigs or cans. I believe the white shows up from distance. Have heard the same about black decoys, though I've not tried them.

Everybody and their dogs blow a mallard hen call. Birds have heard it all the way down the fly way. Some days it works, somedays it does more bad than good. I believe in mixing the calling part up. Gadwall, teal, sprig, widgeon, Mallard.

Just my 2 cents

That's about what I figured. I have sprigs, wigeons, specks and teal. Was wondering if gadwall decoys or redhead/canvasbacks would be worth adding to the spread.

Thanks guys.

It can't hurt, truthfuly it doesn't matter, you can go outside and paint your decoys your own hybrid looking ducks and they would be fine to hunt over
