Well, it was a quiet morning this passed Saturday morning in Desdemona, Texas. Just a small deer across the large oat field. I saw a truck slowly driving up the county road. It leads to a dead end so its rare to see anybody. I noticed he was driving really slow. I figured he was looking for deer. Then he stops his truck across from me looking in the field. I am about 800 yards away in a box blind on the tree line He can't see me....then the window rolls down, a gun comes out and that's when I grab my camera...then Boom... he shoots! I cant believe he just shot in my direction at this deer! He immediately turns around his truck and takes off. I called Game Warden he came out about an hour later, never found the deer, it sounded like a miss. Gave him the pics I took. Investigation pending.....by the way poacher wannabees I found this guys truck at the local restaurant in town that night, got his licence plate number and 10 minutes online got enough information to meet him at his next dentist appointment!

That's [censored]. I would have confronted him. It's pathetic.

Hunting in magnolia would be better in a gated community.

Never underestimate the possibility that you are not alone! Glad you busted him!

Years ago before cell phones I saw a known poacher (and heavy beer drinker) in Mills County cruise slowly down a county road. I could only see part of the road and lost sight of him, but no other cars came or went and within the next thirty seconds I heard brakes lightly squeal followed by a shot several seconds later.

I would have wanted to confront him too. But, if he's careless enough to disobey game laws in the open in broad daylight, I'm not sure that would a smart decision. I doubt he'd hurt you, but he's already shown you that he has no respect for the law. I think the OP did everything exactly how he should have, and I hope because of his diligence they catch this loser.

Just asked him what kind of rifle he was shooting and if he could buy it before the game wardens take it.

Yeah, no way I would confront someone that I just witnessed illegally shoot at a deer. Those type of people could illegally shoot you and then illegally bury your body and no one would know where you went or why you left. OP handled perfectly and getting license plate is gravy.

I guess he did handle it well compared to me. I would have probably flipped his dinner table and slapped him open handed. Lol

Man that sucks. Glad you got pics of it. I would've done exactly what you did, right after I fought off the urge to put a shot through his back glass.

You spend months of time and money getting ready for deer season and a nut shows up.

I sincerely hope law enforcement can proceed on the guy.
