Saturday morning was one for the books. We hunted from 7:30am - 11:30am and flushed 5 coveys of 15-25 birds and 1 covey of 40+. We've imposed a 5 bird limit this year, and here is mine. Pretty solid limit of all Bobs.

All roosters.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

yes, all roosters*. Not sure why, but I've always called the roosters Bobs.

5 bird limit smart. We did an 8 and are thinking of changing to 6.
I hunted in Kansas with some friends a few years ago and the limit was 6. There were lots of birds so they would have a pot to shoot roosters only. Every time someone shot a hen they threw $5 in the pot. Who ever had the most roosters at the end of the day won. It makes you really pay attention to your shots. Believe it or not you can get pretty good at seeing that white streak on the head! It was a blast.
Of course I lost all four days, they lived there and hunted that way every weekend.

Very smart self limit set. I'm taking 2 of my younger cousins on their first quail hunt this weekend and I don't plan on carrying a gun. I doubt they hit more than 8 birds apiece all weekend.

The wild birds definitely took some getting used to. It's nice not having to kick the bush like with the pen-raised variety.
