Just thought I'd see how other people feel about walking through the woods in the dark. I am a bit skiddish when I walk through the woods in the dark. Any little sound causes me to reach for the pistol just in case I need it. If I didn't have the pistol with me, I'd be running to my stand. Lol

The only thing that bothers me a bit is javi's or if I happen on a big rattlesnake. I turn on a brighter light if I run across either of those. I don't carry anything but my bow or rifle when I walk to the stand. Own 2 pistols but never carry them in hunting season.

I never carry a pistol and never worried. Only thing that bothers me is a skunk...

I can barely walk on broken ground in daylight. If it's dark I take the Gator and I do carry.

When I managed and hunted in South Texas, I never had my pistol on me either. It was in my truck or Ranger in my game cleaning bag. Illegals were the only reason I had it with me. Nothing like pulling up to a deer blind with a door open or pulling up to a stand with a smoldering fire under it to get your attention quickly before daylight. I was more worried about waking up a rattlesnake when walking than anything else most of time since I was 35 miles from town and 65 miles to the closest hospital. I lived on the ranch alone and hunted 90% by myself with no one else on the ranch.

I walked right on a skunk last night. His tail went straight in the air and the dang thing started at me! Never had one charge at me before! Went about 15 yards and he stopped and turned around. I hate skunks

I'd hate to have something charge at me and not have a pistol on me.

Just depends. If I'm walking to my tree stand I get a little uneasy. Mostly because it's in the thick stuff and after all the things I've read about hogs. If it's to my box blind it's a different story. Wide open all the way until I get there.

I figure the only thing that would possibly try to take me down in the woods is a large cat. He's gonna come in from the south, and I won't hear him, so hopefully it's over quick and I taste awful to him.

So far doesn't bother me. Only place I am more cautious is Colorado and that is due to mountain lion more than anything else, pretty much the only thing that makes me go "Hmmmm".

When I was younger there were times when I was a little uneasy...hunting public land and not knowing who you might run into etc. but now on a lease in the hill country there's not much to be concerned with.

I'm basically sleep walking to my blind in the mornings anyway so it doesn't bother me.

What has y'all so worked up? Not a lot of dangerous animals in Texas that are going to jump on a man.

South Texas maybe javelina, lion, or illegals but I don't even carry a pistol there, just my rifle.

That sounds like a dream come true. Apart from the illegals of course lol

I am actually worried about stepping in holes or on snakes. I see holes out in those woods that will break your foot.

It doesn't bother me and I hunt in wolf country. I got drawn for a hunt, in the State Park, that has the two most southern wolf packs in MN.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Stub tails are the only thing that worry me. And I'm not shooting a snake where I hunt.

Mountain Lions are my biggest fear. They have been seen and photographed on our place so no doubt they are here. I now carry a pistol with a light on it.

A little nervous, slightly scared, but definitely drunk.

Dad and I saw a mountain lion 3 years ago in a box blind. Seen him twice but only walked a trail never came out. Since then my dad carries every time we go. I would but don't own a pistol. I wear head lamp and check behind me often. Mills county
