I actually love being in the woods after dark. Doesn't bother me at all.
The only time I got scared was wading through the marsh at the Aransas NWR before light to the island I was hunting. It was warm and I got the willies thinking about all the gators that I had seen in the water the evening before. When I startled a big blue heron, he let out a loud "SWAUK!". I dang near pooped my pants.

I used to wade through knee deep water in East Texas to get to my tree stand. There were cottonmouths and water snakes everywhere. Needless to say that I would be sweating before I got to the stand. I hunt in the desert now so my main concern is rattlesnakes and illegals. I just bought a light carry pistol and a leg holster today for those reasons. I have had a Mexican standoff with javelinas under my blind when I was trying to leave one evening. I actually killed one with a rock. roflmao

I listen to some "Tool" before heading to my stand bolt

Javelina mostly. Most illegals would just assume I was with them.

The biggest thing I worry about is making too much noise or sweating. The walk to my stand is about 850yds and they just plowed the field for some late winter wheat.

I only use my headlamp on the darkest nights. Only carry a firearm when tracking shot hogs.

Do it all the time. Only ever armed with my shotgun, rifle or bow. Lots of bears and timber wolves around here but never been bothered by them. The bloody ruff grouse flushing in the dark can sometimes elicit a pair of dirty shorts.

I have hiked up mountains in the dark to look for deer/elk at first light and walked backed to the camp/truck in the dark and you know what ... I still get creeped out by every freaking sound. Maybe I watch too many movies.

I'm the biggest wimp you'll ever meet when it comes to the dark. I think I watch too many scary movies. I don't go to the stand without a pistol and a bright light. I get off the four wheeler and it's pretty much a dead sprint to the stand without looking up... As much as a fat man can sprint anyway. Besides, I'm not scared of the dark... I'm scared of what's IN the dark. There is a huge difference.

I used to watch scary movies so much that it bothered me to go anywhere dark. But now, that doesn't bother me. The part that bothers me is if a pig runs after me, or a coyote who is super duper hungry runs at me. That's what I'm afraid of. The dark isn't bad walking through woods, but when it comes to the animals, that's what I'm afraid of.

I think there are times that we let our imagination gets the best of us. See and hear things that are really not there that might give us the "willies". On my old lease I would walk and hunt racoons in the dark sitting in an open chair 20 yards off of a feeder and not worrying about anything that might come my way. On the other hand, I am on a new lease this year that honestly gave me the "willies" every time I went out sometimes even in the daytime. Lot of over growth had tree covered narrow paths with darkness inside. I felt that I needed to pray over the land and claim it for God. After that I no longer had those feelings that made me uneasy. Regardless of your beliefs, there are things out there that can mess with you just as much or more as an animal or man.

It helps alot if you let you eyes adjust to the dark for about ten minutes before you start your walk. I like to walk without the flashlight unless I need it to make sure I don't get too close to a skunk.

. Me too, I walk in the dark guided by the moonlight. When the moon is dark I will use my red light to guide me, it puts out just enough light in front of me to see my next couple of steps. The zombies and aliens can't see me if I am stealth at night.

Yesterday morning I decided to sit on a tree line along the creek. I was walking along the road looking for the game trail that I use to walk to the tree line. I have my headlamp on, and I catch a set of eyes no more than fifteen feet from me. My first thought was a coon or maybe a skunk, nope a bobcat. We kind of stared at each other for about a minute and then he took off. I kept on down the trail and I when I got to my hideout he was sitting there. He eventually scurried on down the cliff and across the creek. It was one of the more interesting moments I've had to start a hunt. I usually always carry my pistol with me, but I left it in my pickup.

I think it depends what part of my place I'm on. I can walk some of the high parts no problem but there's a huge creekbed that runs through the middle with about as big a trees as you can find in Webb that blot out any natural light and you could not PAY me to walk through that place without a gun and an industrial sized worklamp.

You want to talk about willies... that place will give you the frikin williams!

I had made the trip from the cabin to the blind so many times, I could do it my sleep. Now that I am disable, I make sure I get everybody out of the cabin about an hour before sunup, then get the grandkids up, turn on the TV with cartoons them, get their snacks for breakfast and then go to the bedroom. About 30 minutes before legal shooting time I remove the screen from the windows. Check on the grandkids, and then about legal shooting time I go back to the bedroom and start hunting. In the last 10 years more deer have been shot form the bedroom windows of the cabin than the blinds.

Skiddish. Bad things happen in the dark. Like tripping over a sleeping (or resting) cow when you are not looking where you are going. Or walking into a spider web and picking up an 8 legged passenger. And of course the hogs that don't seem to be as fearful of humans as they used to be.
