At least to me it is. I went upland hunting on a new-to-me public land unit (that is not in West, south , trans pecos or panhandle region of TX). Real tough walking through the brush, but within an hour I was able to flush a covey of quail (~ 6-8 birds) that where hiding along a fence row, tucked into thick grass/weeds. Was able to zero in on one bird that flushed the opposite direction of the other quail and nailed him. And later he tasted great fried in bacon grease. I am a very atypical quail hunter in that I hunt solo and don't have a bird dog (yes, I know that there are better ways to hunt them). Public land quail plus solo hunter = treasured quail to me. This is further proof that the quail are thriving in Texas! Let's hope this continues for many years to come...

That quail doesn't look full grown. We saw some bumblebees on out outing last Sunday

congrats. that is some tough hunting. I used to do that a lot as a teen in the OK panhandle, but then again we had more birds back then. Used to love to do it following a snow - I could call them and the follow the sounds until I picked up tracks. Good times.

I should probably rephrase the question. I know what an actual bumble bee is- neat bee. I take it that a "bumblebee" is an inferior quail to an adult. Is that right Bill?

It's a younger quail, just able to fly. Yours looked older than that but not mature. It's difficult to tell from a picture. Where did you find public hunting for quail in this area?

Wow that is neat that you can tell that from the pic. I showed it to another buddy today and he thinks it was this years hatch. What do you think?
This site has way too manylurkers so I am not comfortable sharing the spot. If I flushed one covey then who knows how many I walked by without flushing.
