Warthogs are not feral pigs, they can't live in true forest, they can't live in true desert, they can't tolerate cold, and can be locally eradicated by hunting pressure. They can however survive in deep South Texas, but small litter size, keeps them somewhat in check.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

That would be as wild to see as the kangaroo I killed a few years back in Eastland There was a high fence place near Strawn that used to have a bunch of them. That may be where it came from.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I wouldn't hesitate pulling the trigger on a warthog if I saw one. Knew they had em in S. Texas, but didn't realize that any had gotten into the Chap.

the Rancho Encantado which is a ranch that borders the chaparral on the west side has a whole lot of Warthogs and Sable on it. Seen dozens of litters there.

How is it that people are allowed to bring in animals that are not native to Texas and then there is no accountability when that persons animals leave? Ridiculous, the state kills hundreds of deer in fear of CWD; but has no concerns of other diseased animals.

Ridiculous, the state kills hundreds of deer in fear of CWD; but has no concerns of other diseased animals. Your statement above shows that you don't know the regulations on exotics. Disease generally isn't a problem, because only animals that were propagated in a controlled environment, can be released (think zoo situation). Invasiveness is an entirely separate issue.

You're right I don't know them (100% clueless), so what are they? How can someone bring in exotics and not be held accountable when they escape? They obviously know who the warthogs belonged to in this particular situation.

I strictly talking about disease. Exotic animals that are brought into the country can't be released, they need to be kept in near zoo like conditions, their offspring can be released, after getting a clean bill of heath from a Veterinarian. As far as escaping and becoming invasive, yes the laws are inadequate, but they are based on a tradition of protecting agriculture. You also need to understand that warthogs are not synonymous with feral hogs. A wildlife refuge, probably wouldn't allow the level of effort required to exterminate them, but on private land they can be eradicated. They simply don't have the reproductive capacity of regular hogs.

There is a high fence ranch north of strawn that had a pen full of wart hogs that you could see from our side of the fence . I went back there the other day to show a friend and they were gone . I bet that dumb sob turned them out . The owner is a real delta bravo. Anything that comes across his high fence that is not marked will get shot.

How are the Aoudads destructive? They will knock over feeders and run through fences. They have attitude problems, bad attitudes. Tough big animals.
