have a custom, 26" barrel, 1-8 twist, I have some load data, but, if anyone has a load (rather than go though various powders)that would share, most likely the 123gr bullet. thanks

That class of bullet, I would use Varget....for the bigger bullets use H4350...unfortunately, those are quite possibly the two hardest powders to find. You might check with 5standDan...he had some recently.

Good luck...you could always try powders around that same burn rate.

I might could help if you were going 140g. Haven't tried anything lighter.

37.5-38.5 grains of varget with 123 scenars should net 2900 fps depending on your barrel.

As usual, work up to that.

I use IMR 4064 for light bullets in my 260. It makes sense that Varget would work well, and with a higher density might give higher velocity.

37.5 of Varget and let her eat. Mine likes that with the 123's and 130's.

For top velocities try Superformance or Reloder17.

41.5g H4350, 140 berger VLD Hunting = 4 rounds @ 300yds

FWIW - the RL powders are not very temp stable.

The only temp unstable Alliant powder that I've had problems with is Reloader 7 in my 458 SOCOM. I use Reloader 7-10-15-17-19-22-and 25, plus several of their newer powders.

Everyone of these above are temp sensitive. R17 the most sensitive. I know R17 and R15 are double base powders, and I think R19 and R7 are also. Alliant produces a lot of double base powders. Double base powders have more energy than single base powders, and make them more sensitive to temps. To combat temp sensitivity, mfg add coatings to the powder. This is what you are seeing on a lot of the newer powders.

I know R22 is also. I shot about 1500 to 2000 rounds in my 300WM with a 190 SMK and R22, and my speeds would easily increase/decrease with the temps. I would account for this, and have some POI shift up when temps got warm. Rule of thumb is 1 fps per degree up or down with the temp. That was a good rule of thumb.

I agree with Chad...I've used both 17 and 15...there are better powders out there if your not able to "load to the condition". I sold all the 17 because as Chad said it's even worse than 15. You couldn't give me a 5lb jug of 17 after my experience.

I was complaining about 17 to a buddy and he said he had a load he tuned in OK that was under a 1/2" load @ 100y....went to CO on an elk hunt and it wouldn't group on a 8.5x11 sheet of paper. Someone told him 17 was bad about temp and to put it on the dash of the truck with the defrost on...turned into a 1/2" load again. He said he spent 3 days with shells stuff in pockets to keep them warm and walked around with a shell stuffed in his glove because he couldn't chamber it and know where it was going to shoot.

15 isn't as bad and I can deal with it but I normally can load for the condition but couldn't use it to hunt with.

Any specific load data, planning on 123 grs first go-around. I did find some IMR 4451.
