Saturday's duck hunt was a bust, but a customer of mine sent me a text that afternoon and said his ranch near Farmersville had been getting hit by the hogs pretty hard. We headed out and got there around 8:15pm and unloaded our gear in the bunkhouse.
We walked out the front door and scanned the field from the porch. About 200 yards away there was a group of 5 hogs under some pecan trees. We made our way quietly down there, got within 40-50 yards and started the countdown. When the smoke cleared, 4 of the 5 were on the ground. Not bad for only being there about 20 minutes!
(notice the porch lights in the top of the pic!)
We took our time getting out to the back of the ranch to clean them. Around 11:30 we were almost done when we heard some squealing a little ways off. We grabbed the guns and looked to the south to see another group of pigs headed our way up the tree line. We made our way out and didn't shoot as well...only got one of them.
The next evening, We were in the bunkhouse watching TV and I decided to do another scan of the field south of the front porch. Lo and behold...more pigs coming in for pecans! We put the stalk on and got inside of about 30 yards and dropped another 4!
I can't say it was a tough hunt. We spent a lot more time cleaning hogs than actually hunting, but it was awesome and the freezer should be full for awhile!
