I am going to head to Sam Houston this weekend. I relocated to Houston this year and didn't have time to find a new lease. I have my annual public hunting permit, and I think I've got the hunters orange down. Seems like most of what I'm reading you guys hunt from a tree climbing stand. I have a pop up ground blind. I assume this is ok? Any last minute tips are appreciated.

Im new too but from what I understand that is ok. Just dont leave it there and I would suggest putting an orange vest or hat on top just to be safe...especially if you wont be going far off the beatten path. I went two weeks ago with my bow and last weekend for rifle and got a spike. If youre new, you probably dont have an antlerless permit...right? So make sure if you pull the trigger it is a spike with at least one unbranched antler or has an inside spread of at like ast 13". Look at the outdoor annual for more info if youre not familiar. There are plenty (I think like 25) primitive camp sites and a handful of pay sites that have showers and bathrooms. Also make sure you know what county you are in to the tag...I hunted on the border-ish and mapped it with my phone to make sure I recorded the correct info. Good luck!

Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to it. I know my chances are slim but I'll just enjoy being in the woods for the first time in a while. Good luck to all of you that are heading out this weekend.
